Title: PAS racks
Post by: Gambit on 10 November 2003, 14:42
anybody ever heard of the actual rack failing?

reason being is that yesterday mine decided to dump the complete contents on to the road

weird thing was though, it dumped it all thru the O/S end of the rack, i could have swore the piping only went into the N/S

anyhow, ive left it in with the mechanic who is going to have a gander at it, but im fearing the worst. he said it could be something as simple as split pipe, or at the worst the rack itself is knackered

any idea's?

Cheers,
Craig

If it isn't a pipe then the seals on the rack have gone. I would think a pipe leak is more likely.

GSF have new rack for ?129 + VAT

thing with mine was that it wasnt loosing fluid, something just went and it dumped all the fluid in one go, hence why i dont think its the seals

i should find out later just how bad my xmas is going to be!!

GSF is sh!te but they have them listed at 151.00. Is it hard getting suppliers to ship to the isle of man? If it would help your welcome to get it shipped here and I'll have it mailed to you. I put one in a renault 19 a year ago. what a pain in the @rse that was.

lol things just get worse!!

got the rack for ?25, and i had to get the pipes from the pump & resivoir also, as the unions on the rack end of the pipes are shafted

i didnt think these would be expensive, so i asked Stuart in ECP could he get them

yeah he can - ?180!! im gonna ring VAG for a laugh and see what they charge!

but i reckon im gonna be back on the phone to radicool for them!!!

WOW!  :o I work on Aircraft engines for a living and I don't think we have many hoses on them that are 180 quid. I think I would efinatly call VW. How can the rack be 30 and the hoses by 180. maybe a glitch in their system? wow again.  :o

VAG where dearer again!!

in the end i sourced a set from another breakers yard for ?45

its because of the unions on the ends!

most breakers i rang said these are like hen's teeth, and as soon as cars come in they are gone

so if you know of a PAS car getting dismantled get the pipes!!
