i am looking at a mk4 v reg with full vw service history but it has 80k on the clock are the engines reliable sorry i dont know much about mk4 as i am used to mk2
-
got mine on 50k in august 2004 now got 77k with FSH and still drives like new. (cambelt and water pump replaced at 72k. I would not be put off by that sort of mileage.
-
wot would u reccomend that i replaced if i brought it
-
cambelt unless it has a reciept that its been changed . has it been chipped modded ??
-
nope why would u reccomend it
-
i would recomend a remap every time makes the mk4 a proper gti without it its just a golf
-
i just sold my gti 16v wot do you think i will have to do to make it as fast as the 16v???
-
Make sure you check the insurance quotes if you have engine mods done. Official figures put the Mk4 150 bhp 0-60 as 8.1sec and Mk2 16v as 7.9 so not much in it if yours was standard.
Also the standard turbo settings are on a fairly low boost, and thats one of the reasons the engines last so well.

:huh:well i used to race my m8s 1.8t all the time and my valver was std part from zorst and it used to cleanly destroy my m8s 1.8t off the mark. how much will the times come down if i get a remap
-
it makes a huge differance cant say i was disapointed after getting it done
-
£480.00 to £500.00 will increase a 150 bhp to just over 200bhp. Dont know the figures for 0-60 etc though once this has been done, although I Know some people on here have had the re-map done.

i got a 6.2 sec 0-60 (g-tech recorded) with revo, forge dv, milltek dpipe/cat/zorst.. dunno how accurate those things are.
by 80k the cambelt should have been done, check the service history to see if the waterpump was changed at the same time.. they can give up around 80k. see if there's any history of the aircon being serviced (i've just had to buy a new aircon compressor.. not cheap!)
