Ive heard they are fine. Dont expect miracles but they certainly increase power like all the big brand name chips do and they will also eliminate any digi lag on the 8v engines. for £20 who cares!

Hi,
I just fitted my piggy back chip on air inlet valve..from e-bay...was unsure whether it would work but for under £10...you can't really go wrong.
Having fitted the unit I am amazed at the difference it makes not only does the engine runs smoother but the accleration is amazing...definaetly worth the mone :tongue:y. Rob.

It goes into the end of the connection that clips onto air temp sender on the airbox.  Just remove the connection and push the (5p) resister into the end.   I bought one a while back for one of my old cars but all it did was make my car drink fuel like a V8!!!!!!!!!   But id be interested to hear how you go on with yours.

Tried that resistor this morning, pluged it into the air temp sensor on the airbox, and it was crap  after 5 minutes I stoped and took it off, cos when you put your foot down, it just guddered, unless i put it on wrong. so do I? if not then forget using these resistor type things, crap
Any comments lads?

i e-mailed one guy from ebay, and he said its was harder to wire the chip into a later gti(needs 2 wires)i had a look at mine and its got 3,what year is yours.mines a 97 agg engine with the hitachi mas.
who did you get it from,do you have the gaybay link

Alwight fellas...
I was looking for ages for info on tuning boxes. I'm a different case cos I have a TDI mk3.
I was basically caught between pointlessly spending big money on a chip re-map and buying some cheap crap off ebay !
So I went halfway house. Basically 2 companies mrhoot.com and hhtuning.co.uk were the contenders for IMO the best value boxes.
The analogue ones are the cheapies, but I went for a cheap digital box for £220 from hhtuning.co.uk.
And F*ck me.... what an improvment !!! I could easily take on a 8v Gti now ! 90Bhp - 110bhp. 25% increase. Fuel consumption is a bit less, but worth it for the extra power. 90+mph uphill !
Not sure how these things work on petrol cars though. I don't think they're as effective.

mines a 97 with hitachi meter, but i got that resistor back last summer, on gaybay, from some donkey for £2.99. thought I'd give it a go.  not got the link now.

I bought one of those £2.99 ones 2 years ago but never fitted it coz I couldnt work out which plug to fit into!

Mines a 97 P and Its the 2 pin/3 pin thing with me too!

But all I can think they do is act like a choke and push more fuel in.

yea thats right, untill the car has wormed up a bit, it starts to judder on excelaration like I found out.
don't bother with it.  just a well it was only £2.99.

They do work like a choke basically and push more fuel in. It also tends to judder slightly when pushed hardin 5th. It's the only way to make a diesel go faster. However mines a TDI with a digital chip and might work differently somewhow with 8-pin connections. It doesn't smoke though. I wouldn't take it back off, put it that way. It is bloody expensive though for what it is !! Does seem more complex than an ebay resistor in a box, but goes like sh!t off a stick!

i stuck a resistor on mine earlier and it was better only had a 10min blast down the road but does pull better:) will see what it does to fuel economy tho
