Title: 8v K Jet GTI Fuel Pump Relay
Post by: psenior1 on 04 January 2006, 10:28
One problem fixed (new alternator - had knackered 55amp fitted) and another one found! It seems that my Fuel pump isn't priming when I turn on the ignition.

My fuse box looks as if it has the main two row of relays and then an aditional row on top that is not part of the main board, I take it the pump relay is part of this top row - from what I've read it should be the second one from the left?  Is this correct?

Apart from not priming are there any other symptoms that a duff relay may be causing - as the car runs ok, just a bit lumpy on idle..

Cheers!

think your in the right place relay is on the left hand side second row think its got 80 on it,  if the car doesnt prime at all then its likely its the relay but it could be the lift pump aswell as there nutorious for going. if it occasionally starts or only has problems when you have less than 1/2 full tank then thats the lift pump not the relay.

Well, relay definately isn't labelled 80, has got 62 on it.  The fuel pump looks like its fairly new and  I've replace the filter and lift pump - which made no difference.  It buzzes quite loudly and definately doesn't prime, though the car runs fine when warm (hunts abit on cold idle), is it worth replacing the relay do you think?

Ta for any more help...
