Any motor shop will do it! Can pick up cheap stuff at carboots..., like 50 tins for £2...

Just buy Carb Cleaner in a can (like WD40 size can)
Its better to remove and strip Carb to clean each jet and moving part.
If you'v got compressor then use it to blast all the sh@te out the port holes, etc. If not then take a dep breath and blow down the jets.

Just spray most ofd a tin into the top of the carb whilst the engine running, that will clean most if not all of the crap out of it and the engine!

If you have your heart set on stripping it make sure you have plenty of manuals so you know how to put it back together again after, the Haynes carb manual is a must :)

If you want the whole cleaning kit with gasgets then contact euro carbs in reading (just google the name) and they'll sort you out.

Are you sure it wasnt a 1300 you robbed the Weber from?  :undecided:
Just read your other thread "wont run prop.." and the Weber should be much better than sh!teburg!!!
Make sure its jetted for a 1600 not a 1300.

an old webber can be just as knackered as a pierburg ;)

definatly jetted for the right engine, by the look of the engine i new it was either a 1600 or 1800 so i felt round the back and it was definalty a 1600, ive heard from alot of mechanics othe rpeople wiho "know about cars" and ive been assured that a pierburg running properly isnt very far of the standard of a weber anyway, pierburgs just go wrong more often and is often mistaken for being crap, but before mine went wrong it was running better than this weber. plus ive really gone off this manual choke, anyone want this weber when i get this pierburg? you can have it for 30 quid just needs stripping and cleaning out but i cant be arsed to do it,  ive had it with webers

how did you know it was a 1600 just by feeling round the back?  The only way to tell is to check the log book or read the engine number stamped on the front :)

on the block right behind it just above the sump(bloody hard to reach) theres raised lettering, on my old 1800 on my old golf it read "1.8" on the automatic engine i bought for it when the 1800 blew up it had an "A", and on both my engine and the one at the scrappy it says "1.6" im just assuming that its telling me what engine it is... ???

the 1.6 carb engines didn't have 1.6 stamped on them, they had 1.8.  The blocks themselves are identical to those fitted to the 1.8 8v engines, but with a different crank & pistons to reduce the cc to 1.6 :)

well........... what can i say......... my touchy feely skiils must be totally out of wack.... ide be no good at braile thats for sure :(, tell ya what, that solves the big mystery about my old golf and what looked like a dodgy engine conversion, foiled again

Rubjonny, are the pistons different between 1600 and 1800? i thought it was the Crank and Conrods that were only different? Pistons are identical arent they? Just got a longer stroke?  :undecided:

Well according to ETKA, the piston for the EZ is different to the piston for the GU & PB :)
