Bit worried that my valver is rejecting its 2.0 heart... :embarassed:
The brand new GSF engine mounts are not very happy at all- before driving to London for new year i had it on a ramp for a complete torque check on all the important bits and all was well but it now clunks and bangs under braking/acceleration and i reckon it must be the mounts. Am rather pissed orf as they were not cheap. Am gonna raise the issue with GSF but what mounts did anyone else use in a 2.0 conversion? If uprated ones, what type/ make and if you kept them standard, has anyone else buggered the front one in 3 months??
What is worse is that i killed the clutch today, which was a brand new LUX one. Under a heavy foot it now slips like crazy and so i guess i am gonna have to go down the uprated route- again any ideas??
Before the clutch went i was having ace fun with some dick in a brand new Range Rover Vogue- after i left him for dead from 80-120 (A303 south was nice'n'clear!!) he sat on my bumper repeatedly at a 90mph cruise which got quite annoying...there are some ace dual carriageway roundabouts and so i let him have a huuuuge headstart, those Rangeys dont half roll and he was clearly gunning it. I dont think he was very happy at all when a seemingly standard Mk2 not only laughably overhauled him but then buggered off into the distance. He left me alone after that and didnt reply when i flashed him an apology :grin: Although the Range Rover weighs 2.5tons it does have 324 lb/ft of torque, 306bhp and hits 60 in 8.3secs (Land Rover stats) so i can see why he was pretty embarrassed. Also on the way up i clearly outdragged a Volvo C70 cab on a long uphill stretch too and later on paused alongside, presumably for a 'hang on thats an sodding 17yr old Golf' type moment.
Damn i love a good 'Q' car even if my valver runs like a bag of spanners in a cement mixer and now has a cooked clutch!!!
Any ideas guys'n'gals?

LUK clutches are sh!t at the best of times so i am not surprised you have gone through it. Get a sachs one or a black diamond one, they are reputable and i haven't heard a bad thing about them yet.
Engine mounts take the query/complaint up with GSF and get on the blower to vibratechnics, they do solid mounts for the golfs and they are damn good.

I must admit those Range Rovers are damn quick! I got pulled by a Police one - i went under Bridgewater M5 bridge at 120mph when i saw the Range Rover parked on top of bridge, i thought if i carry on at this speed he wont catch me till i get off at 2 junctions time. (it was 4am) by the time i got to Burnham Junction (next junction) the Police Range Rover was on my arse!!!! :shocked: :shocked: :sad:
Gave me a warning thank god! :embarassed:

Thanks for advice- am wondering whether fitting 8v gearbox was a good idea now as the clutch has a smaller diameter :sad:
I also presume the engine now simply has too much torque for the single front mount and when its under load all that twist has gone and torn it..
I really should have uprated the clutch first time round but didnt anticipate just how potent this cheapo engine swap was!!
Have had a look at the Sachs and Diamond clutches and thats defo the way forward *.

I have the 8v box on mine mate, its not a problem with the power really, but the dodgy clutches that really give you the trouble. I have a sachs friction plate and thats it for it. The 16v pressure plate is still being used and nothing has given any sign of wear yet. Black diamond are expensive at 176 quid but they are worth it.
As for the engine mounts i am not surprised that they have been pulled loose, mine need doing when i get around to it.

I'd agree and get a solid mount I've heard lots of good things about them; and also been in a golf with them and felt no more additional vibrations. My new motor as just ripped my front mount appart and it was running like sh!'t

Yeh, reckon a vibratech one makes sense- lifetime guarantee too...a warranty i shall no doubt be testing soon. :evil:
Am now considering welding clutch solid in third gear and instead doing a gokart style push start technique...
This avoids having to spend £160 on a Sachs clutch or even £400 for a Helix one...more than the damn car cost!! :shocked:

I opted for vibra technics on all 3 mounts just to be safe! am thinking of changing the front for a solid one though.

Was a little worried about your taillights on the white one but thankfully they must have been stolen and glued onto a saxo where they belong :grin: :grin:

A good combo is a Golf 1.3/16v bonded rubber gearbox mount, a G60/16v rear mount and a front bonded rubber mount.
If the rubber front mount gives up on you then get a solid metal one :)

Why thank you. Look i was slightly unstable when i bought them lexus lights! Needless to say they went with the car when i sold it! :grin: Hopefully my taste has greatly improved now.

If it helps, on my old Golf cl I once welded DIY twin pipes onto the back box...the result looked rubbish and sounded even worse :grin:
Think i have solved the slipping clutch- the sump gasket is pissing out oil and that thin steel plate that sits between engine and gearbox doesnt quite cover the flywheel...which is now soaked in oil...
Some forum this is- why didnt anyone tell me "oil" was a "lubricant"...?? :rolleyes: :tongue:
