can anyone tell me if the gearbox in a 1996 N reg 2ltr 8v gti is the same as any other one or will anything else e.g mk2 or diesel box fit and work???

Mk2 16 valver box fits mate jus count teeth on shaft they shud be the same  :santa:

would that be the 1.8 16v or later 2ltr 16v??
sorry to seem thick but new to golfs
