anyone know where if the leads work that are for sale on ebay and if so where can i get the software to use it and is it easy to use I'm asking as my airbag light has come on and the local specialist wants £25 to turn it off then more to fix the problem. I'm thinking it might just be worth me buying the software to sort it out myself as i intend on keeping the car for a while and i will probably use it again what are your thoughts have any of you got or used this or should i just leave it well alone cheers.

dunno about the ebay ones, here is the link to the suppliers of vag com tho :cool:http://www.ross-tech.com/products.html
-
so if i get this program and one of the leads off ebay will this work and has anyone done it if so is it easy to use
-
Yes i got a lead of ebay and it works fine. you are a bit limited to what you can do with the free software from ross tech, but is ideal for finding fault codes.

Rich, have you tried powering down (disconnect battery) and seeing if this works? This was first recomendation by Audi main dealer when we had a similar problem with airbag light. In our case it didn't work, and we ended up £400 lighter having had a new side airbag fitted.
BTW, not sure if you know, but it is my understanding that the Golf defaults to NO pyrotechnic safety devices when light is on (no airbags or seatbelt pre tensioners) - good because you need not worry about inadvertent bag deployment (scary) Bad because they could save your life.
Good luck!

ok thanks ill try disconecting my battery first see if that works but ill probably buy a lead off ebay anyway because just recenly ive been getting a coolant warning check service manual come up on the dash it doesnt always do it just sometimes ill see if i can sort that as well thanks guys

Mine is from E-bay and works fine . And you can allways find OBD-II software on the internet if you know the places to look .

I'm just picking up the latest VAG COM software and lead. Apparently, according to my mate at work who is supplying me, as soon as you plug it into your car it unlocks the software to a full running version. Will let you know how I get on.
Just ordered the cruise control from VAG and need the VAG COM to switch it on in the ECU :undecided:
-
ok thanks where are you getting the software and lead from
-
A mate from work is getting it all for me. Should have it by Friday.
-
Now got it and it works fine. Fitted my cruise control and I did indeed have to enable it with the VAG COM software.
Today I'll try running a ground scan and see what fault codes it throws up..........if any :undecided:
-
Oh and by the way. You do have to be very careful when looking at the airbag side of things with the VAG COM. It throws up a warning about problems with certain part numbers of airbags or something. I'll try and suss out more on that today. Only looked at it briefly as I was more interested in enabling the CC at the time.

Hey, used it today and checked loads of parameters. One thing I picked up on.....fuel timing was too far retarded. Causes problems starting, both hot and cold and smoke. Have now advanced the fuel timing, now spot on. Aparrently should also improve the rev range, performance and economy.........
Hope to expect easier starting and less smoke on start up, at the very least.........will see........already averaging 50 mpg!!!!
-
thanks it sounds like it does a lot i dont realy know anything about timing though so id leave that alone is the vag com you have got the same as the ross tech one will it all do the same thing if not is it copyable
-
Yes its the Ross tech one. You can download it from their site as shareware. As soon as you plug it into your car and carry out a scan it registers the product.
Its then up to you if you want to activate all the available functions. I'm pretty sure the airbag scan is available under the shareware version......have a look at their online manual to confirm.ÂÂÂ
Mine is now fully enabled so can do just about everything.
