Merry Christmas!
How can you tell if the mount is knackered?
The engine does move when you rev it but I am not sure if this is excessive. The whole mount moves though, which makes it look disconnected from the crossmember. Is that normal?
Regards
Alan

Changed my front mount the other month as there was quite a lot of movement in the engine bay - much better now, a lot more stable. It does sound like you have a similar problem - they are prone to failure.......

The way to test it is to put the handbrake on real tight and put the car in 1st and rock on and off the clutch. Get a mate to do this while you watch the engine. If the mount is fooked then the engine will try and climb out the bay! repeat the same in reverse to check the rear mount and gearbox mount. The problem is most probably with your front mount though.

a 16v front mount will fit straight in and is much beefier than the 8v one. only £2 more too. That's GSF prices btw. about £36.
check the bolts are intact too. 2 underneath and 1 on top. I've had the thread and nut shear off the top one leaving my engine meerly resting on the mount instead of holding it down.

Thanks guys. I will deal with this when the ice-age is over.
