They have offered me 500 for it and me keep the car
-
how much did you pay for it?
Can £500 fix it?
-
Sorry yea it would of been a start if i told you how much i paid, it was £950!
the damage is as follows:

the way i see it, i have reserved with mirage or the forum a bonet, bumper and a slam pannel for £50 then i just need a wing which i think will be about £30 brand new and then to spray the lot my mate will do it for about £100.
The insurance assesed it as being 1650 to repair!
-
Go for it. The last wing I bought from VW was about £70. :)
I think you got a bargin for £950. Looks a good valver for the money. :)
-
it depends whos fault it was? i wouldnt have bothered telling the insurance company if it was my fault and fixed it, it looks a lot worse than it is really. if its coming off someone elses insurance just get whatever you can and fix it with that, you should have some change  send them a photocopy of some golfs for sale in the back of a golf mag, they are always a bit expencive :nerd:
-
it was their fault, the bint didnt even stop for a blind junction about 3 metres in front of me (if that in fact)!
As far as the money getting paid out i am quite pleased with it, but its the guy at the body shop who took it away to have a look said i payed over the odds! and that has really annoyed me!
It was in overall very good condition, everything worked!
-
There you go then :)
You might have it all sorted and some change left over to get more mods :D
-
Indeed! although the scirocco needs a new carb so i will have to buy one of those soon!
i get paid soon aswell, so i will be out of my overdraft! hooray!!!!!
i was just rattled by the guys comments, so i thought i would ask u guys what u thought
-
will the car be registered as being a right off ?
+ where can you get a decent 16v for £500
it was not your fault so you should end up in a position where by you end up with the same car ,insist that it was worth more and see what happens?
-
I think i would rather keep the one i got and fix it up, i am getting a lock up soon so i will throw it in there and use the rocco
i will get a copy of golf+ and show them pics of valvers and see what they say!
-
Defenitly contest their assesment of what its worth.... Its worth atleast £500 in the state its in now!.
-

-
Yea i'll contest it definately!
-
The cheeky feckers always try it on at first, but dig your heels in if you're in no rush and see what they say.
-
oh i will, but bear in mind i am keeping the car, what would u say a fair amoutn would be?
-
I dunno, try for 750 and the car and see what they say, they may meet you halfway. Give them all the b'locks about getting a valver for £900 blah blah and see what they say.
-
£950 looks like a bargain it looked sweet, trouble is most insurers just go by the book price not what enthusiasts pay so to them its just a 15yr old golf   . You really need to go with a specialist insurer (like me   ) and get an agreed value policy. Definatly dispute the offer and send back examples of similar cars for sale at higher prices in the back of mags etc and if you make enough fuss you are almost certain to get a better offer.
only problem now is that if the vehicle is now registered as an insurance write off if anything alse happens to the payout is likely to be even lower....
-
sounds fair!
well this is how useless these people are, when the first bloke came round for an initial assesment, he got half of the details wrong! he thought it was an 8valve and missed half the spec off. He even got the wheel and tyre size wrong, if you cant even read the tyre size on a wheel then you shouldnt be an inurance assesor!!
-
^^yeah unfortunatly not all insurance bods are enthusiasts like me!!! i'd ave given ya loads for it!!
-
for comparison my 4door Freg GTI 8valve was nicked and burnt out also in pretty good nick no P/S manual windows 135000 miles and they paid me £1200 so i think they are taking the pee

ha ha, thanks!! but i think if i wasnt keeping the car they would of given me more. to be honest i think i am just going to take there offer, 500 was more than i was expecting to be honest.
But i went home yesterday fuming at the guys comments.
