Post by: shanegti3 on 21 December 2005, 08:38
hi all i seem to be havin some trouble where my car seems a bit unstable
above 60mph.. it seems to wander a bit
in normal driving it sometimes feels hard to turn right. left turns are ok..
steering belt looks like it could do with tightening up.
ive got 17'' inch wheels on. these are vw santa monica (genuine vw wheels)
the front wheels have spacers on.
i checked the tyre pressure..
but still feeling sh!t
when i go round right hand bends can feel the wheel grabbing a bit.
please help..ive got standard 15'' inch wheels comin gonna put them on see if it feels any better

cheers shane

grab 1 of the spoke on the back wheel and pull it about, as if trying to lift the car, if you hear knocking it's the rear axle bushes, if not, jack the back end and try it again, it's about £150 to get done, including powerflex poly bushes, worth getting poly too, they stiffen back end up on cornering better, i'll get mi nuts out in woolworths if thats not whats causing it.......

I would also get tracking/alignment checked properly as well.
