I bought a genuine VAG one for my cab a while ago, having second thoughts about fitting it though, I know they look the biz but the bumpers weigh a ton, no wonder the cab is slower, so what do you think, is the look worth the weight penalty ?.

in a word - yes.
cabs aren't meant for tearing around the streets like a tin-top. They are good at one thing, and they do it well - making you look so d@mn cool 8)

Bladerunner,
I'm personally not a fan of the clipper kit, not because of what it looks like but because bodykits are often fitted to hide dodgy bits of rust/accident damage. It's only a resale thing, so if you plan on keeping the car forever (like many on here) then do what you want. Look at Adam's for example, it looks great with the kit on (looks better in the flesh) and in Red would probably look wrong without the bodykit. My ragtop is one of those bizarre brown/burgendy types that would look stupid with a clipper kit.
Besides, if it slows you down too much you've then got a good excuse to put something a little bigger under the bonnet.

Thanks for the opinions, I have the use of other cars and a bike for the fast driving/riding and I suppose I,ve always thought of the cab as a cruiser rather than a performance car, my car is white and has mint bodywork, though I ,ve always thought it needed the kit to finish it off, though when I bought the kit I thought it was very heavy, I suppose when I get the car running I should bolt the bumpers on and see if I notice the weight difference. and as for keeping it, I,ve had it three years without putting it on the road so I suppose I will have it for a while. :)
