Title: Really sh!t cold starter!
Post by: Tornado on 17 December 2005, 14:11
Hello there
As soon as the mercury drops on the old thermometer my 8v digi is very reluctant to start.
Just before it does start it turns over really slowly , just once or twice then bursts into life.
After that it starts without any problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your battery isn't liking the cold weather mate.

Hi there
It is not the battery. The battery is new and the engine cranks over really well. However when it is really cold it takes lots of cranking and then immediately before it does start it turns over very slowly once or twice then starts. It is not the gradual slowing down that you get with a dud battery.
Regards
Alan

Alan

My 16 valve does this occasionally but not when its cold - it is when it is particularly hot. Try a combination of not touching the throttle, half throttle and full throttle. My hot car prefers full throttle.

Cheers big ears

Sorry guys
Should have said that I have replaced,PCV gasket, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, battery and have cleaned ISV and thottle body. Next i am going to replace the blue temp sender and if that fails its off to a specialist because i am a tad clueless about cars esp electrics.
I just was wondering what other peoples experiences were with cold start problems and the type of solutions they have found in case it gives me clue to my problem
Kind regards
Alan
