on my mk2 16v selecting first is hard, a bit notchy if you know what i mean, is it worth me changing the gearbox oil, and if so what would you recomend, thin or thick.

the car has covered 130,000 miles.

Had a mk 11 eight valve a few years ago, putting synthetic gearbox oil in it improved the synchro on it, but check all the linkages are ok first, dont remember if mk11s are like the mk1, but there is adjustment on the gearlever mounting plate that is important on the mk1,s, if the plate is,nt located correctly it causes selection problems.

Change the oil anyway, its good practice, even though vw say you don't have to do it. Try using castrol syntrax, it works wonders with gear selection.
