BP Ulimate came out very well in the fuel study done by EVO magazine (current issue). They used a Mk5 GTI for the tests too!

I have noticed that Optimax is becoming very scarce in London.

When I stopped at the shell at Stirling corner on Tuesday, 3 pumps were out of Optimax and unleaded.

This morning only 4 unleaded pumps and 2 Optimax working. (out of 16)

Tesco 99 Ron has some ethanol in it to raise the RON. No detergents though apparrantly, unlike Optimax or Ulitmate.

it was a plant that held aviation fuel, (which would explain the ease at which it exploaded) some agricultural and some public.

I seriously doubt it was all the optimax as it was one of 56 (??) holding bays around the country, its probably just the surrounding area that has been shafted.

I think optimax is a waste of money. All my tank fulls I've tried feel a lot better when I leave the forecourt, but after a few miles it feels just like standard unleaded. The tesco's Super I've been using stays as smooth as day 1 all through the tank's contents. And it's cheaper.
