Title: Wiper/washer fuse problem
Post by: widdy on 06 November 2003, 14:03
hi all  :D I have a little problem with my Mk2 and I'm hoping someone maybe able to shed some light so then i won't have to goto a garage and pay extortionate $$$$'s for what is probably a very minor problem.

I brought and 2nd hand Mk2 on an E plate and although the gearbox went within 3 days (fixed now) I have a very annoying problem that keeps popping up.Everytime I use my washers on the windowscreen the fuse blows out almost immediatly (gone through about 20 so far  :-[ ) I have a feeling it maybe something to do with the relay but i've been unable to find one in a scrapyard just to test my theory (Golfs are very sparse around here)
Now I've obviously shown myself to know just about nothing about cars and I thought that This forum would probably be able to shed some light or maybe give me a run down of things to check for etc.

Any help would be very much apprieciated  :)

take it it should be a 10A 1?, have you cheaked the system make sure the earth is ok and all the conections are. if that doesent solve it, i would ring or drop by an auto sparky's and ask them 4 a bit of advice see if they have ne ideas.

is it not caused by the wiper motor being knackered, and its burning out the fuse because its having to do too much work to operate the motor/linkages

simple way to find out, is to take the wiper motor out, clean it up & grease all the linkages etc

Are your Washer jets heated ones? sounds like some wires are crossed?
