OK, seeing as I created this monster (DOH!), Hypnotoad beleives I should take charge in it, and to be honest, I feel a duty to it now.
It looks like we have loads of ideas and need to agree on some factors.
We should keep it to the following:
- one Weekend (long weekend at most)
- No entrance fee
- To have a real destination, ie a show or a trackday type thing
There are a few places suggested, and if we want a fixed date now, we would really have to count out Nuburgring , but we could aim for something like GTI International, Bugjam or a Euro Show...
A roadtrip round the UK is a good idea, but as we are so spread out, we would need to have a worthwile destination.
We have the potential for a really class weekend here, but I need input from everyone who truly want to be involved, so pm me, answer this post, whatever...
I'll get a bit more work done on finding out what weekends there are of importance for us, and if we can get 20+ people involved we'd be doing pretty good.
-
Maybe do it as a charity run type event, Collect donations etc? Would help get magazines etc intrested in running an article/advertisement feature about it to build up intrest (Granted it would probably be after the event, but that helps make it bigger if you wish to carry it on the next year!).
Need to get a startin position everyone agree's on sorted, like i said - midlands would probably be best for most people as its slap-bang in the middle so nobody can whinge about it being too far (Because lets be honest, going from london to edinburgh is a trek if thats BEFORE the event and then your driving from edinburgh down south again!) and the midlands gives us the choice of pretty much anywhere in the uk as a destination (Half the run there, half the run back to midlands!).
-
well you can count me in straight away, not to bothererd were we start, or goi via but i think ending up at bug jam sounds likea  good idea, i have herd good things about it!
Why not start up somewhere in the midlands so every one has a fairly even travel distance at first? just an idea
-
give me plenty of notice and i will come along.
-
How about GTI international and then stop at Folembray on the way back?
Not really silly miles, a track involved, a bit of sunshine, plenty of cars to look at.
As a European road trip anyway.
Someone will have to point me in the direction of the shows and dates in the UK for me to try and work an idea out.
-
and no satnavs this time pete?
I think staying uk-based for the first one would be the best bet, as we're not likely to have a massive turnout and it makes the whole thing alot easier to organise. Go bigger next year!. Dont run before u can walk.. or whatever my mom used to say! :)
-
OK, midlands start, it is.
Would be a good idea to charity it up.
We finish at Bugjam.
Or GTI International
Bugjam starts on 21st July, so we could meet on the Thursday, but need to get a good route/and where in the midlands?
GTI International is 17 June
-
Satnavs aren't my thing, I just point myself in the direction of somewhere and do what people tell me, especially abroad. I'm easily led when I've got a rwd toy
'Undertake that Skyline'
'Use the hard shoulder to get past'
'Don't worry about the wet, just nail it'
My answer to all these, and more, 'ok'.
Maybe you should look to take in some biking roads en route, cat and fiddle among others.
-
Get a poll going GTI International or Bug Jam.
And as far as the meeting point is then how about Birmingham, anyone know of anywhere in brum we can all meet?
-
I dont know of anywhere in particular in brum, But i know a few people from there so i can ask around. :) Problem with bugjam is it already is quite central in the uk really - Possibly brum but thats not much of a run! Maybe a bit further up the uk, sheffield etc? Blast down the m1 to northhampton, then across to bugjam?.
I like the biking roads idea too!.
-
Errmm Inters in my personal view is sh!t, so i would say the better bet is to get to bugjam. Would be awesome if half the forum turned up.
-
well if it already is central then take a de-tour and go on a tangent then back in again
-
Seen as this is all going to start taking up quite a bit of space on the boards, maybe jv could setup a small section for Golfball?
-
^^^ yea someone should send him a PM and see what he thinks
-
Taken care of neaty :)
-
^^^ as quick as a cat
-
Shh dont let the ladies hear you :embarassed:
-
Good work hypno....
so we're looking at bugjam more than anything, then.
we'll have to string together a few bike routes maybe we could cross the peaks then yorkshire moors and then down to bugjam?
-
Ooo scenic, may have to stop a few times to get some lush group photos of the cars!.
-

Top one looks awesome! Shame about the bottom one, looks like a granny car!
Does the bugjam tickets include camping?
-
All those in favour of the above proposed arrangements say I....I
crikey what was in that camper??!!
-
i was gonna say slick is the only reason you wanted to do bugjam coz u know u can beat em but looking at that camper iv changed my mind!! hope i should b runnin a 210bhp vr under my hood by then if the student loan will allow it

I
-
tickets include camping including use of multiple toilets. Showers are a possibility but be prepared for long queues, and you might want to take a pill to stop you crapping all weekend, the toilets take on lives of their own after saturday midday ish.
From what i could gather it was a scooby lump pushing 340bhp, all through the rear, which would explain the bucking front end.
-
I
-
ah well thats cheating, its not even a VAG engine! but they do go in quite nicely i believe on beetles and campers
-
Thats nothing! I'll be driving a 1litre polo! I'll show that camper who the real king is.
-
there is a club that some of the aircooled lot can join, i cannot remember its name but basically if you can get your air cooled motor to do a sub 15sec qtr then you are in.
Just a quick side note, have a look on the bugjam site, and look at some of the times, these are some seriously crazy machines.
-
mmmm...one litre of Polos...
-

-
Mine could easily win best Rat Look watercooled...at the mo anyway
-
since im new this may sound funny but do they do a sh!t heap winner person who no one knows how the Fu@k they even got the car last the journey?
-
wont the police try and stop us having a convoy of dubs rolling up the m25 or where ever it goes
-
As long as we dont drive like tossers up the motorways, they'll be fine with it...
-
they might try and do u for anything that is wrong with ur car! i got pulled over in jan and got given 3 points because i had a defective tyre, it was 0.1 mm under the limit, what a monumental WAYNE KERR! i wasnt in a convoy like but if they do decide to inquire then be warned!
-

It'd be amazing if we could get a 100 dubs going round....

I havnt driven my valver in about 7 weeks now so its doing alright on fuel at the minute!
I get about 25 mpg out of it on average, I only ever drove it to work and thats just being featherlight on the throttle. But when i give it a bit of beans its not too bad on fuel, yours might be overfueling, might be worth gettin that checked out!
In the brochure it says that it can do 44.5 mpg or something, mine hasnt been anywhere near that!
A guy i know (saxo driver0 had his fogs on when it was not foggy and got a fine! These coppers are just bored these days! go and catch some criminals instead of harrassing people.
