Just bought a mk2 gti with the cam belt snapped, whats the best way to put a new one on and what chance have i got of getting away with it?! ÂÂÂ
-
slim chance mate, more often than not the valves get bent.... Especially if it's pinged at high rpm....
-
sometimes you can get away with it...depends if whoever had it when it snapped turned it over afterwards or not
-
Not sure what happened to it only just bought it and not sure what route to take! whether to have a go at fitting a new belt, fit a new engine or sell it? it may just sit there for awhile! running around in another mk2 at the moment.
nice motor dude!
-
is there anyway of checking? or is it just fit a belt an see?
-
a lot of the mk2 engines were non-interference, so you may get away with a new belt and re-alignment mate
-
That would be so cool.............the mk2 im running round in is er....ok'ish goes like a rocket looks like poo!
So hopefully just re-align, is all that i need to know in the haynes or bentley manual?
-
wouldnt like to say, but i doubt it
-
easiest way is to take the head off and have a look. if its an 8 valve you probably got away with it but its easy enough to take the head off just in case....
-
think its an 8 valve, its arriving tonight so ill have a look
thanks dudes
-
yep, 8 valve BUT been told that the belt stripped teeth and did not snap!! is this the same as snapping or are am i looking at a bigger prob?????????
-
its either top end or bottom end thats gone i would think my jetta did it and that was the cam solid!!due to a blocked uplift.
-
maybe new engine!
