my mark 2 has had a bad rear smack, has a crease on the floor pan( near the spare wheel, and drivers door wont shut properly, i know its a right of but what i want to know is, is it possible to fix a writern of car, not money wise i mean structural and that, please advice needed
-
oopies
how you manage that?
you gotta think is it worth it, depending on the circumstances it may be easier having new car to play with again.
im not the best to speak but im guessing 'the daddies' (rub, slick etc...) are goin to say u cant tell without looking at it. sounds bad tho...
:undecided:

Don't want to be a merchant of doom, but that sounds pretty terminal.  Is it 3 or 5 door?  If the driver's door won't shut that would indicate further chassis damage (in my totally unprofessional opinion!) and a crease in the floorpan is never good.
Time to break it and start saving!?
-
Not good mate!
Mine would be a write off aswell if i went through the insurance!
It depends how bad it is, panels are easy to replace, but if the underside of the car is bent it might not pass an MOT or could be unsafe to drive?
When it is damaged is a weak point now.

Duh yeah just remembered, when my mum had rear end in her Astra apart from wrecked bumper all you could see was tinyweeny crease in boot floor - but that ended up costing £2400 (whole chassis fooked). Which was ok for £14k car on someone elses insurance but for a mk2 golf.... uh oh.
-
it is a 3 door, cant really  think about getting another, just  spent  evrything on it  i own to restore it, this is a set back
-
Why dont you look at buying a dirt cheap 1.3? Then swap every thing over?
-
dont have the tspace, gonna run it till next mot see how it goes, will replace the rear pannel and bumpers,(and hangers) its just a hell of a lot of work i guess
-
I bent my car after i hit a kerb sideways!
Bent wishbone, wheel, strut, bonnet, smashed arch, bumper, and cracked the dash!
Underneath is slightly bent but not that noticable unless you know what your looking for! :smug:
-
is that your car?(the pic) yeah thee seems to be o other sighn of damage, so i will probaly fix her up,
-
So your prepared to put it in a jig to straighten it out, and do a respray on it?
Get it to a proper good garage asap, and don't rag it.
Although if it does come to be the worst, and if its a three door, I suggest you sell me the seats and Front Big Bumper and let it go to the scrappy in the sky...
:smug:
No mk2 is really worth major straightening work... Not many mk3s are, to that matter
-
is it really expensive then, how would i go about doing it then
-
Consider your safety in the car mate.
-
You are going to be talking about thousands to do it properly (ie safely!) if the chassis is bent, and this is not something you want to be doing as a diy project.
I'd strongly advise against driving it until you've had a body shop look it over.  May just be the rear pan, but if it is more then the handling will be potentially unpredictable, and any further incidents could see you driving a concertina......
Why not just claim off the person who rear-ended you, break the car for bits, and buy a new project with the cash?  If you've already done one project another will be easier.
Lots of cheapies around in the winter- go on- treat yourself!!
