Hello there
How can you tell if the engine block has been changed from 1.8 8v to 2.0 8v. Is there a straightforward way to do this?
Regards
Alan

my old one has an extra breater on the front but that can be made to look stock too
-
Check the engine code, or alternativly look for a large 1.8 or 2.0 cast into the block :)
-
lol
The engine block on mine has a lot of surface rust and I cant see a number. Do you know where I should look for this?
Thanks

Specky B@st@rd!
Is it reading 8.1? If so then you are either upside down or it was built for the Australian market.

Jesus
There really is a big "1.8".
I thought they were kidding. Looks like a nice site i am going to have a wee perusal ce soir.
Fitted new(dry) ECU tonight but seems to be much the same. Also fiddled about with CO but probably just fecking it up...its good fun though.
Alan
I am going to look for the 1.8

Have you no pics of the MIM lookalikes?

Try this GD
I looked at my block and cant find a 1.8 any where. Looked at the back with a mirror and could not find one there?

I meant on the car! Why don't you bring it in to work and get rid of that hideous spiteful piece of crap Fiat and spend all that extra money on driving the Golf.
As you know I have now had 3 years of extremely trouble free cheap motoring from old Golfs. If you drive it every day and believe that it will get you to point B, then it will. It may even run a bit better - More wise words (8 brandies).
