Title: PASSAT GT-YES GT!!!
Post by: 15 inches on 05 November 2003, 22:44
I finally bit the bullet and bought a passat estate GT (ON A G)from an auction..It was getting a bit too cramped in the mk2gtd for the brats.-STILL KEEPING MY MK2 8V ;D.

Any way to my utter suprise and joy it has a 8valve gti engine-wayhay!!And all the electrics that you can wave a stick at.

Waffle over-the only thing i can see that is different from my golf is that it doesnt seem to have an ECU on the bulk head.
Whats that all about???
Sensible answers please and no laughing at my 'long' car ???

i won't laugh at your 'long car' mate, i've had three of them myself and i think they are fantastic motors

  and i've got no kids!!!

Thanks mate, this one i got for ?1oo :).Its done 200k and i was just going to use it for the electrics and alloys. But even after 200k the engine is mint ,which makes me feel better as my gti has done 150k.So heres to high mileage'-rs.
The only fault it has is that the central locking doesnt work.I havent had chance to strip the drivers door down yet-do you know of any common faults on the central locking of long cars..???

i had a h plate 1.8gl  180000 on the clock and that had
dodgy locking. i could only lock it from passenger side

wish i never sold it, i need it so badly at the moment. i have a house to clear out and nothing to pull my trailer with :(

that one had multipoint injection and like yourself i dont recall the ecu on the bulkhead

I used to have a passat gt 16v on a H plate, it went like a rocket. It had the 2.0 16v 9A engine in it. What injection system has it got?

The engine is excatly the same as the one on my mk2 8v-so without close inspesction it must be a 'pb'.But like i said there is no ECU on bulk head.
Its not too quick but i dont think that that was what it was designed for .lol. ;D

My mates got a Passat GT............I'm pretty sure its got the digifant fuel injection system.
I used it to pick up/tow that Mk1 GTI I acquired recently. Not a bad motor although his one is getting a little smokey now.

A good friend of mine has a 89 passat gt, engine is a PB and as Rich said it uses the digifant inj. I think that it is a cracking car, lots of "toys" and well built. 150K on the clock and still pulls like a train, did the stem seals 2 years ago to stop the smoke and uses no oil now.
Steve.

If anyone wants to get an old passat, go for the GT 16V, its got the 9A engine in it, fast as f**k. Mr.mk1 knows how good the 9A engine is, he has just stuck a turbo on one  ;)

I had an 86 passat estate for a bit that i bought for ?100. caned the tits off of it and it just wouldn't die. used it for a pick-up, a van, a tow vehicle, rallye car :) etc. and just couldn't kill it. I still see it going around town every now and then.
