Hello there
Yesterday I cleaned out ISV and throttle body using cloth and wd40 in an attempt to resolve idling issues.
Today I removed PCV to find that it is clogged with Mayo. There was also a little mayo on the inside of oil filler. Other than the lumpy idie and some misfiring the car runs well and does not overheat.
Any ideas? Poss head gasket?
Kind regards
Alan
PS Can the top be taken off the PCV to clean it out. I mean after it is removed from the rocker cover?

usally signs of head gasket on it's way, but if you use the car on short journeys all the time, it could just be condensation mixing in with oil ,just give it a clean and clean all breathers, then leave it, start to worry when it starts boiling up..... :nerd:

The car is used only, and I mean only ..for very short journeys at the moment and this has been the case for the best aprt of a year. I do try to get it up to operating temp when using it but it does only get used for 5-10 mins at a time.
regards
Alan
Ps when I have deliberately taken the car out to get it nice and hot it does not overheat, hard driving gets temp up to high 90's

ttheres nothing unusuall with that, it's about the right temp.....

Would I be right in thinking that , if the car is not losing water or over heating then it is unlikely to be gasket trouble?

doubt it mate, it doesn't sound like it to me, just the short journey syndrome, give it a jolly good clean and an oil n filter change....
-
Thanks mate
I will clean up and get oil etc done
Many thanks.

its the short journies thats causing the build up of mayo, you need to take it out for a good long blast to clear it out. get it nice and hot then blast up a few dual carriage ways for as long as you can.
-
Thanks
I did take it for a 20 mile blast to get it nice and hot and will try and keep it regular so to speak!

Aye it gets especially bad this time of year, don't worry as long as you don't have any other symptoms :)
-
Thanks rj
There are no other symptoms.
However it idles like a pig but goes like sh!t off a shovel..any guesses?

hmm where do i start?
Vacuum leak
idle switch not connecting
PCV rubber bung split
inlet boot split
idle/co set incorrect
That'll do for starters ;)
