I have an 86 1.8 8v Golf GTI.
Normally I put LRP in it.....can I use super? And can I just top up whats in there with Super?
Help from big strong boys much appreciated

The best fuel to use for your car is super unleaded or optimax. I've heard the old k-jet engines don't like LRP. You don't need leaded fuel , you just need high octane fuel.

run my old kjet 8v on optimax runs sweet when warmed up been a bit rough when cold lately but hey its getting colder!
-
Speedy,
Try using the optimax, it works out cheaper for me as I got more miles per gallon, and the better performance is a real bonus. It should be fine to use in your motor.

Sounds good to me ;)

What about on an 85 Mk2 8v?
I'm still running on LRP...
-
^^^^^ you can run it on Super Unleaded or Optimax without any problems
-
Cheers!
Should I wait until my tank is almost empty or can I top up my LRP?
-
I've had no end of probs wi optimax
-
id wait till its near enough empty before puttin in unleaded, cant see there being any probs mixing it anyhow
-
my 85 kjet 8v would run on meths if ya put it in lol, run it on owt optimax and bp ulitma give it a bit more go but normal unleaded runs fine, it aint blown up yet, he he he
-
Every third tank I put in is optimax, runs fine and causes no hassles and thats on a 16V.
-
Running pure unleaded here but decided to run every 4 tank on Optimax or Super Unleaded to see how it goes.
It in for atune in the next few weeks and will ask their opinion on the topic and let you all know what they say :)

i run pure optimax... its great stuff.. it doesnt really start "working until you've put a tank or so through..
-
I have used optimax and its great stuff  I use it when ever I am near a shell garage

Pretty much all VW engines have hardened valve seats so do not need LRP or leaded petrol.
