hi all i have an 8v gti n reg, AGG engine code, I have had problems with it cold starting for about 7 months and never found a cure, it never idles when cold. Today when i went to start the car it is hunting between 300 and 800 rpm,. i have had the car on diagnostics a few times and one picked up that the throttle angle was 12%, which apparaently is to high ???????????. i just wondered if this engine has its own throttle position sensor, as all these faults point to it maybe. Any help appreciated cheers DAN

It should have one, look where the throttle cable goes onto the inlet, it should be there.

Dan,
There is a throttle sensor in the throttle housing, if its reading is not within tollerance, it needs to be reset using VAG-COM, or a VAG5051 machine.
I had a similar problem with idle but changed my ECU as it wasn't matched to my AGG engine, 037 906 025R Simos engine management system.
My local VW parts department told me that the ECU that I had didn't exist, so I was lucky, and haven't had a problem since. Helps with changing your cambelt of readings etc...

If the sensor is out of spec then it will need to be replaced.
The only time the sensor needs to be 'matched' with the ecu using vag com is when the vehicle is fitted with automatic transmission.
