Hey guys, ive got the standard Pierburg on my 1600 Driver and having nothing but trouble with it idling.
Yeah i know i should get Weber but im skint till after xmas...just bought misses present
Anyways, car runs fine when turn it on in mornings..
1. Automatic Choke works fine & revs to 2000rpm for a few minutes
2. After a while (1min or so) the car will die for no reason.?!
3. If i drive it then it feels lumpy and horrible with loss of power and when dip clutch it will 99% time stall, or will idle at 100rpm (red dash lights flash up)
Could it be blocked jets again? or is the heater in Inlet Manafold playing up? would no heater make that much difference to car not idling?

bloody pierburgs, im my opinion theres just too many little bits and bobs on them, bloody wires and pipes everywhere, with a weber life is so simple, the guy i got mine from says he should be getting another one in soon, and he sold me mine for a mere 60 quid so ill give you a shout if he gets it

That would be cool if i got money then. Does it fit on original manifold or do i need new manifold aswell as Weber carb?
-
same manifold, you get a adapter plate which fits onto the 3 screw rubber gasket thing, then another gasket type thing and then the barb fits onto the adapter with 4 nuts(which are bastards to do up ) and on top of the carb theres like an "s" piece bracket which when you take off the plug on the top of your airbox, lines up wiith the hole and you screw in this allen key plug to hold it on, as for the manual choke cable you just poke out this little rubber this at the back of the engine bay and stick the cable thru that and bolt it down somewhere on your dash, mines on my center consol... phew

Where did you get adaptor plate?
For now tho im getting very pis*ed off with my Pierburg as cant afford to get Weber yet!
-
the adapter plate is part of the kit, without an adapter plate you cant the carb on anything,
as for you pierburg have you looked at rubjohnys thing that covers everthing to do with them? garenteed your problem will be on there, its very detailed, far better than what haynes have to say about it anyway

Your Autochoke is NOT working fine if it revs to 2000 for a few minutes minutes :)
At most it should rev to 1.5k for a few seconds on a really cold day, then drop and stay at 900ish rpm from then on. It sounds to me like the coolant channel o'ring in your inlet manifold is knackered and preventing coolant circulating round the choke & waxstat. Cheap part to buy but not so easy to replace. See the end of my 2e2 FAQ for details on how to do it:

And here is a more detailed pic of what it probably looks like now:

changing that o`ring caused my an evening of dispare, he was right tho, mine had swollen up so much that it was more like a plug than an o`ring

Damnit man stop changing your username every 5 seconds
