my 8v gti is not firing up. i cheaked the leads,sparks plugs and the distributor and all seem to work fine the is fuel getting in to the engine. i have cheaked the timing aswell that all seems fine. how ever i did change the hosing joint for the water pipe. can anyone help plz!

Have you checked that you're getting a spark at the sparkplug?
Can't see how changing the water pipe housing joint would have caused the car not to start.........unless you disturbed something else. :-\

yeah i am getting a spark from all plugs and coil. it turns over but not firing. it very unsual.

I had that problem and my car was off the road for 3 weeks.
It turned out to be that thing on the starter motor. not sure what its called. (Its stuck to the starter motor)
Anyway it caught fire.
I was told if that part fails then it will not send a signal to the ECU and basicaly the car wont start.
??? Worth a look

GIVE YA FUEL PUMP RELAY A POKE...THEY SOMETIMES HAVE PROBLEM THERE, MINE DID.
YOU MIGHT SMELL FUEL BUT CAN YOU HEAR THE PUMP HUM....
LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON... ;)

yeah i been told that there is not alot of compression in the engine that y it aint firing up

SO IS IT BETTER TO HAVE NO COMPRESSION?
SO IT TURNS OVER ...IT HAS A SPARK..AND YOUR GETTING FUEL....HMMM

wheres the starter relay, is this in the fuse box area or on the starter motor?

FUSE BOX MATE JUST GIVE IT A PROD IF THE PUMP DONT HUMMM...ITS A SILVER ONE I THINK... :)
ITS A SOLINOID ON THE STARTER GEEZ!!!!

Buy a compression tester from Halfords and check it yourself.
