New problem today after an oil and filter change!
Oil light is flashing once the car warms up, seems to be when dropping the revs after accleration. Had a look at the Bentley manual and I am guessing it is a faulty sensor (the higher pressure one). Car has been checked to make sure oil level is ok and there are no leaks.......Can anyone confirm my thoughts that it is the sensor? :undecided:

easiest thing to do is to swap it with another one, see what difference that makes. but it has been known to happen after a oil change. did you flush it all out? it can flash as the filter fills up and it takes a little while to pressurise, but after running for a short time it should go out......

Cheers for the quick reply Joe......
Didn't flush it :embarassed: The semi synthetic that went in was quite a lot cleaner than the oil that came out - probably a shock to the system for the old beast........

Have exactly the same problem. Have changed the oil and filter twice, oil pump, and high pressure sensor. Will swap the circuit at the back of the clocks at some stage, but starting to ignore it now.
If in doubt will just go for a two litre bottom end to solve the problem!!

UPDATE: Is my engine totally f**ked?
Went to the stealership today, got the white (higher oil pressure) switch and more importantly a new dipstick guide......
The dipstick guide that has been on the car since I bought it was a "home-made" affair made from a piece of tubing. It was pointed out to me yesterday by the guy that did the oil change as not what was supposed to be there. After fitting the VW guide this morning, the oil level was showing as VERY low and it has since swallowed another litre of oil......
Changed the switch anyway, but very concerned now about the state of the engine. It has seemingly (according to the new dipstick level) been running with a litre LESS oil than it should have had in it for months. I bought the car in June but there is no telling how long the "home-made" dipstick guide has been on there. Basically the car has had low oil for months, maybe years!
I haven't been out in it yet to see if the oil light stops coming on. It was only coming on after the car had warmed up so have to take it for a longish run. Thing that baffles me is that when the filter was renewed, the oil was topped up to the full level with the home-made dipstick guide, which is obviously what I have been using to top up the oil as well. The oil light has NEVER come on before, even though the level must have been low. Only AFTER the oil change did it start, so I am really confused tbh.
Does it mean that my engine is just dead, and it's death just happened to coincide with the oil change? :undecided:

If your engine was dead due to lack of oil you would know about it by now, lots of nasty knocks & grinding
Take it out for a drive now you've fitted the new sensor & guide tube and let us know how you get on :)

Cheers mate - think I was getting paranoid for a minute there.....
Went for a drive with the new (correct) amount of oil and the new sensor, things seem to be ok now. Popped to Halfrauds and got some spade connectors to fix the broken oil temp connection that I noticed when fitting the pressure switch. Fixed that in the car park so now I know what the oil temp as well which is a bonus. Went for a bit of a drive, oil temp warmed up to 96 degrees and still no oil light, so keeping fingers crossed!
Thing that baffles me is that it has been running with low oil for god knows how long and yet runs ok. It didn't even blow up on the rolling road last week, in fact had more power than standard - and that's with low oil! Crazy stuff...........My old Beetle was the same - bulletproof engine, must be a Veedub thing............
