Title: Mk 2 16v Power Steering
Post by: Rory on 04 November 2003, 15:31
The power steering belt on my mark 2 continues to slip regardless of the fact that the tensioner is fully tightened.  I have replaced the belts twice but that does not seem to help.  Anyone come across this before?

Are you sure its not the pump squeeling rather than the belt, as it sounds the same. On my old car the power steering pump went, all was fine until i engaged the power steering, then there was a horrible squeeling noise like the belt slipping. When i looked at it the pump actually froze when the steering was being turned, and the belt was just slipping on it. Gotta be worth a look.

Otherwise all i can think of is oil on the belt or pulley.
