Out of interest how much work/time is involved swaping out a 1991 Gti dash?
Mine has a little bit of damage around the stereo and it bugs me.
Just want to put the standard one back in.
Cheers

if its just the plastic surround then it'll only take 10 minutes, if its the whole dash a hell of a lot longer!
-
Wowa! I wouldnt even attempt to swap a whole dash!!! And i will try anything once!
If its just stereo surround then thats easy... remove switches etc, stereo, few screws, then its out!

And brand new ones are £17+vat from ECP, I know, I got one today!!

Dash isn't that difficult once you've removed the surround, just remove the under trays, then a couple of bolts hold it on and a couple of staples holding the hot/cold air pipes to the dash vents :)

It's the whole dash i'm afraid.
Has anyone actually replaced one?
-
I have removed one with the intention of reusing it (i.e. I didn't just rip it out) and I've stripped out most of one when changing a heater matrix. It's not a difficult job you just need to take a methodical approach and take your time. The only thing that really caught me out was the two bolts that hold the dash below the wiper scuttle panel under the bonnet.

I take it they are removed from the engine bay side?
Dumb question, but need to ask:embarassed:

Yep if you look under the scuttle panel from the engine bay side through all the wiper mechanism you will see two nuts. A mirror would certainly help here.

Cheers, one of the jobs on the long finger but worth knowing
