I am thinking about making my Valver quicker. I've come up with these 2 options. 16V turbo or a VR, I've already ruled out the 20VT coz i don't want a new sump everytime i go out.
My engine's has only done 9,000 miles, and spent loads on the new engine after the last one blow up. So really the sensible option would be to keep it, and find somewhere that could turbo it, I've got a rough idea of what's involved to do it.
Does anyone know somewhere in this contry that still sells and fits a turbo conversion for the 1.8 16V?
Or do i go for the VR coz it's a lot easier to do and makes a great noise.
-
tough choice but i htink i would be leaning towards tho turbo valver if i am honest! (i too have a valver)
sorry i cant shed any light on the technical side!

16v turbo.
VR6 gearbox is too long, and engine is a bit sluggish, although slap a charger on it and wheeeeeeeee fun times.
-
that 16vtwoody guy on here is/was selling a 16valve turbo mark 2 might be worth asking him about it, or he might sell u the engine if he hasnt sold the car yet

I must admit i wish i could wipe the smug smile of a VR6 owners face....aint no replacment for displacement....yea what ever!!
i have never been to pod, i must go!

when we were at bugjam, the last race i had was against a VR. Guy looked well smug sitting at the line sneering at my mk2.
Lights changed and boom straight through first and he was already behind me, then i missed 2nd and slammed the gearstick into the gate... he went past me... I got it sorted and carried on, still crossed the line before him even though i f**ked it up.
he the proceeded to follow me back to where we were camped and got out to ask what i had under the bonnet, looked very miffed when i told him.

 quality! i need to witness ur vavler one day, i will make sure i go to bug jam so i can!
190 bhp isnt it?

Yup, still got a few things to iron out, but it will be getting close to 200 soon, without any forced induction. hopefully have it running sweet by spring festival. Want to have a go against toph or JV see how much 4wd difference makes.

should be interesting

what we gain from grip, we lose from weight.. heavy buggers these rallyes. you can run against either one of us by all means but if all goes to plan we'll both be running something a bit special by spring festival
back on topic for a sec... turbo it, collect the parts seperately off ebay and bolt it all together yourself, then just get someone to set it up for you. cheap as chips.

Yeah as chris has said, get part seperate if possible, although its a lot of work. Engine internals etc. There was a turbo technics conversion for sale last week on there i was watching it. can't remember how much it went for.
-
i wouldnt touch the internals if your engine has done 9000 miles, thick copper head gasket to lower the c/r (i know i always rant on about using proper pistons etc, but c'mon.. 9000 miles!) and run moderate boost should see you a trouble-free impressive power increase.
-
oops missed that bit. though you were going to rip it apart and start again. So yeah ignore internals, copper head set as toph says and bobs your uncles neices grandmothers sister. some more go go power.
-
now i dnt know whther theyre is any truth in this but apparently by using a mark 3 16valve bottom end the compression is perfect for turbo charging, but i may have just made that up so dont quote me :undecided:
someone should be able to agree/correct me to back that up tho
-
Looks like i might be going for the 16V turbo option. I ve found a turbo kit from SLS in germany for 3,500 euros. And it say's it gives 260hp.
It's a bit more that i wanted to spend, I'll see how much money I've got after Christmas and see what happens.

would be worth it tho!
-
cant see any pictures of that kit but just doublecheck it'll fit a rhd car before you part with any cash.
-
see if you can get a kit from america, cos they are a bit cheaper over there and the exchange rate is good at the moment

you do it bad man
