???
Hi all,
Just when you thought it was safe to get back in your car!!
Just bought a new water pump for my 82 MK1 (the early one)
Slight problem my existing pulley does not fit, the hole pattern
is too small and the bracket on the new pump is too big.
Have checked with Euro car parts and my new pump is definitely the right one, they have also cross ref'd with the old pump number.Unfortunately they don't do pulleys, and my local VW garage do not seem interested in me spending money with them.
Has anyone had a similar problem or can suggest a part number or source for a pulley, standard or alloy etc etc.
I can supply dims, offsets, numbers etc.
Many thanks,
Mark

Return the pump, go get one from vw. Genuine parts always fit.

:-\
Tried to matey, but they couldn't be bothered to check part numbers and I was advised to go to a scrap yard.
If you know of any good VW scrapyards?

Try a different VW garage, i'm sure one will supply you with a water pump.
-
fraid, I can't do that cos fitted the thermostat housing
before I noticed the pulley problem so can't return the pump.
Anyway not prepared to pay main dealer prices, got a wife and kids to support.

Main dealer prices have come down big time in the last year. Have you phoned for a price?

Hi,
Ref the water pump pulley, (the story continues), have had to go for a VW item cos I can't locate an early pulley that will fit the euro car part pump.Unfortunately all the part numbers quoted point to the later (smaller centred) pulley.
Anyway you were right with the costs ?30.00 (+?15.00) surcharge
from VW as opposed to ?22.00 from ECP's.
So have got an unused pump (that will fit an early MK1 pulley)
if anyone wants to buy it.
PS the Bosch stuff for the MK1 is still quite a bit more from VW than
elsewhere.
Regards,
Mark
