Sounds familiar to mine, but rear brakes locked onto the discs, sent me backwards, drivers side first into a crash barrier (at about 50ish mph), flipped it twice and slid back across the dual carriageway just stopping before a junction. Left hanging upside down in the car, windscreen was never recovered.....  :undecided: and ended up crawling out of the passenger window. One of the first cars with a crash shell on it, the mk2 was, think it saved my bacon.

Ohh you guys and your photos, sure know how to give new drivers confidence eh? :)

Im lucky, ive had no crashes yet.. but ive only had a few lessons - But in all but one lesson ive had near misses and none of them my fault i must add! But i suppose thats what u gotta expect when your learning to drive in the parts of manchester popular with joy riders and general idiots!.

I do have a few near miss stories for you though!

First one was my very first lesson, Just practicing pulling away and shifting through gears - driving along a quiet road (doing quite well i must add! perfect shifts ever y time.) and all of a sudden in the space of 5seconds 2 idiots on dirtbikes (Non road-legal i must add) came flying out of a wooded area, nearly hitting a woman pushing a pram, 2 parked cars, a car driving towards me and then me! not wanting to give up there though the guy on the back bike proceeded to drive into the back of the guy on the front bike who had to brake to avoid me. I guess i should of seen if they was ok.. but to be quite honest i didnt care! Im pretty sure anyone who drives like that wouldnt be missed greatly from the gene pool.

Second one was last week when the road was quite icy and covered in snow, driving down one of manchesters busier roads (The one that goes down the side of the park near manchester city stadium if anyone knows it) and i get to a blind bend, as im approaching it i see a large white truck going around the corner so i slowed my speed down to 20 just to give him enough time to get around, as he gets halfway around the corner some idiot in a punto comes flying around the side of him (Who the f**k overtakes a truck on a blind corner?! let alone when its icy!) of course he see's me coming towards him, panics and hits his brakes. Ends up blocking my side of the road with his ice fueled skid. Narrowly missed him... as you can tell Manchester has its fair share of darwin award winners.

The rest arnt worth boring you with, just old people pulling infront without indicating etc the usual annoyances. :)

its the people that pull out that are the lethal ones!!
the bloody pissed up smack head! and the there insurers still havnt contacted me to come out and agree a fee for my car!

whats the deal with what happens when if you want to keep the car, do they give you money to fix it if its a mild "write off", coz i wanna keep my valver and get it back to its best. But what sort of money are they going to give me?
Title: Re: Pictures of my valver after the crash
Post by: [han] on 04 December 2005, 21:43
it depends what the damage is worth, they paid me for the damage to my car, because the damage was bad enuff to write it off, but not bad enuff for them to take, they just gave me less money and said i could keep it.. you can discuss that with teh valuer...
the valuer that came said theres no point in takin mine, but if u say u want to restore the car, you don't want it writing off, they'll rob make it a cat C -  so you can repair it... altho you might have to buy it back from them!? not sure how it all works tbh.//

Post by: Neaty on 04 December 2005, 21:45
its all complicated and confusing isnt it! they had best give me a decent amount to get it fixed!

I hope you do get it sorted neaty, that looked like a pretty nice car before the accident would be a shame to see all that work wasted!.

Cheers mate, i hope so too. It was my pride and joy! Now its just sat on my drive getting mouldy, i went to go and start it up the other day but the battery was flat! (thats how long it has been sitting there!!) it smells damp and mouldy! I am determined to get it back on the road and firing on all cylinders (if you pardon the pun)!

I have bought a scirocco to keep me mobile but i dnt get it until next weekend and i cant insure it until the claim is orted out with my valver so at the moment i am on the same mode of transport as thee, with the addition of:

I was doing alright at one point i had my red 1.6 dirver which i had for about 10 months in all, it served me well:

then my mate ended up buying 2 valvers on ebay so i said that i would buy the cheapest one, which was £255. Lets just say you get what you pay for...

I had that for about 3 months maximum, most of which was spent off road after i spun it into a tree, and to make things worse it kept cutting out and coughing and spluttering! Which i sorted but when i did it was MOT time, it failed 3 times so i sold it to my mate who took the engine, g'box, interior out and scrapped the shell.

then to keep me going my dad put me on the insurance for his green 8 valve mark 3 (i dnt have a pic of this)

then i bought my current valver off my mate (valver number 2 in the valvers of ebay)

I took this picture as i got to the car park after work, it was all clean and had just been lowered that weekend at was looking particularly nice.

Wow that trip down memory lane has brought a tear to my eye

Some pretty nice cars there! :) Unfortunately the only vehicles ive ever driven are an old Volvo (That was amusing watching me attempt to go around a tight corner with a 4ft drop either side), a westfield (only around the car park though :( ) and the car im learning it at the moment, a nice shiney '04 Polo! :)

I liked the 1.6 driver, i had put big bumpers on it, dropped it 55mm, then 80mm on venom motorsport lowering kit (shocks and struts etc) and had GTI Rainbow interior, was a good all rounder. The grey valver was just quick, looked a bit ropey, in fact the passenger door was shot, i had seen stronger pieces of toast!

Volvo's ay, my mate has got a 240GLT in white, its a giant sofa on wheels, it wollows and leans into the corners!

Haha yeah my dad loves volvos... its the only type of car he's owned the whole time ive been alive - Right now hes driving a 1992 940 - Quite a nice car actually! only cost him a few hundred and its got full electrics and seat heaters, and its comfy as anything! the inside of it is massive. Dashboards like a coffee table!.

No question that the T5 is quick, my mates isnt tho! 240 GLT estate thing!

I was a dual carriageway in Barrow about a year or so ago, and i had a head light out - unbeknown to me. about half way down this section of dual carriageway i passed a police car (volvo t5) and before i knew it he was right up behind me and pulled me over! he must of been giving it death! i was amazed

Nice bloke the copper actualy, unlike the usual i get in sunny lancashire......cough cough bar stewards cough cough
