Hi all,
as soon as i fixed my starting a small but annoying problems seem to have appeared. When I start the car after its sat around for awhile i need to give the accelerator a quick jab to fire the car up, afterwhich I've noticed that when i take my foot of the accelerator whilst on the move till the cars reached 50'c the revs continue to climb two or three hundred revs before dropping down.
I've started the car using remote start on the 1st attempt the car doesn't start , then on the 2nd attempt the car fires up, so the Clifford must modify the way it fires on the 2nd attempt.
cheers

what car?
-
its probably more that on the first attempt it primes the engine, the second just kicks it in. i've got remote start on mine and all it does start it for a set time, so if it doesn't start on the first try it'll more than likely do it on the second.
could be a sticky throttle body?

sorry mate its a mk2 16v 88.
the clifford only turns the engine over once then stop then tries again and it fires straight away.
same with manual if i dont give it some gas, it wont fire up & when i do get the car started, the car revs itself to 2k and thens slowly falls down over 6 secs to 1.1k idle, this only happens when car is cooled down or from cold start, and this happens if i use the clifford aswell to start the car
i sprayed carb cleaner into the throotle body a couple of weeks ago to get rid of the deposits on the butterfly, how do un-sticky it, are there any bits i should lubricate?
thanks

strangely enough i have the exact same problem with my 16v at the mo! rev's to 2k when cold and then falls really slowly
i thought the ISV was clogged and sticking in the cold weather. so took it off cleaned it out & give it a wd40 - didnt make any difference, wasnt that dirty anyway
its as if something is sticking with the cold. i dont think it is the accelerator cable because if you lift the throttle & even pull it towards u it still rev's
which leads me to believe its one of two things
1. sticky throttle closed switch on throttle body
2. mucked up over run cut off valve
both will be checked/cleaned at the weekend

i just had a enw acc cable fitted, as the pedal was dead heavy, and slow at responding.. now its amazing, the car has a life of its own.... not sure if u need a cable, but if ur symptoms were like mine.. then it might help? (my cable was £7)

Where did you get your cable from Han?

Continental Auto Spares - yorks VAG sepcialist! (paid my lil bro £15 to fit it mind!)

£15?! you was robbed

Gambit,
how did the fix go over the weekend , did you manage to cure the initial high revs?
