Title: starter query
Post by: Leejaydoob on 04 November 2003, 13:20
my starter started sounding weird today, when i looked it had almost come off
the bottom bolt was gone  and the fixing to front engine mount has sheared. It was only held in loosely
with top bolt  :(

any ideas what may have caused this?

i suspect engine mounts but its hard to say

i'm not so sure about that, ive had it three months
only thing touched in that time is gear linkage

I'm assuming this is a Mk1?
'Justins145bhpMK1' had exactly the same thing happen to him earlier this year. Have a look here:-

Looks like it might be a good idea to keep an eye on those starter bolts. Maybe it is something to do with worn engine mounts or that anti-rotation mount not being positioned correctly.

Hi rich
its a 1988 mk2 8v digi
i got some bolts today and refitted it all for time being :)
i'm thinking bottom bolts been missing a while as it goes right through to engine mount bracket
hence the bolthole on starter shearing
I had to jack engine about 4 inch to line up holes
i'm looking out for another starter so i can fit all 3 bolts again

thanks for link anyway, fairly similar problem i think
