Need advice - i cant sort this one out myself. Right i have an Edition ONe G60 Aubergine which i absolutely adore and swore to myself i would never sell, it is my daily driver and is standard it is without a shadow of a doubt the loveliest car i have owned. Problem - i have just bought a Pearl Blue rallye which i have put up for sale in this site. I came home tonight and looked at the rallye - it just looks so special - i know i will never get the chance to own one again.
I am not minted so cant afford to keep to cars. I already have a T25 project on the go and 3 cars seems silly.
Do i:
a: Sell the Rallye
b: Sell the g60, keep the rallye and put a TT engine in it.
Bearing in mind the car i keep will be my daily driver and will be driven all year round for all purposes.
HHHHHEEEELLLP !!
-
or alternatively leave the rallye alone for a while and save some cash.
-
So you wreckon keep the g60 and the Rallye, or sell the rallye ?
-
defo the G60 as its an edition one, and not many were made. Keep the rallye but see if you can store it. AND if you want my advice please do not harm the rallye they are mint as they are, why people wanna ruin that by banging a TT engine in there i do not know, if you want a TT go and buy one.
-
Seems like sound advice. I like your thinking.
-
If there's anyway you can, then keep both - they're lovely! Not sure why you can run a G60 Ed.1 daily with a G60 but not a Rallye though?
Also as per Slick's comments - i would try to keep both as close to standard as possible.

If you want an answer i suggest handing me over for medical research, Id probally be the guy who would have it sat half an inch from the floor on OZ super turismo rims, a Audi TT lump, Stage 2 turbo kit, 6 speed transmission, Nitrous, Stripped interiour, roll cage and a front and rear splitter kit flushed to match the rest of it......I think ive just been banned from buying a rallye for life havnt i? :(

In a word - Yes
-
LOL Ohhhh i can see this being useful at the next MK meet...
Fielder - "Gaz buy me a Bigmac"
Daz - "No! Buy your own Big Mac"
Fielder - "buy me a big mac of ill buy a rallye!!!"
On a serious note, Keep the rallye, There great cars, saw one parked outside my work the other day and almost tripped over the curb because i couldnt take my eyes off it.
-
Got to agree with what everyone else has said, keep the Rallye and keep it as standard as possible
and Fielder...buy your own Big Mac!! ..and get me one whilst your there
-
they're both crap, sell em both and get yerself a nice ford orion, them 1.6i ghia's are nice motors.... :nerd:
-
Rallye every time mate - they are becoming rare - keep standard - everyone is mod'ing VW now adays not alot of people are keeping VW's standard.
-
Thanks guys, appreciate the comments, thats what i really want to do is to keep them both and they are both completely standard, except the g60's belly is scraping a bit. Right no christmas presents for anyone. Gonna try and earn some cash so i can afford to keep 'em both. You can definately notice the difference in weight between the two, the rallye feels like a bigger car in all respects. Havent really booted it though cause the charger hasnt been touched and it has 60k on the clock. What do you guys wreckon with rgards 1st overhaul for charger ? I know the overhaul intervals are 45k
-
Ask topher how he got 204 hp out of his!
Keep the Rallye and keep it standard.
-
I always thought the overhauls were 60k intervals. :undecided: I think jabbersport do good overhauls on them, but again as len has said give topher a IM and see what he says.
-
Keep both! Sell the missus, the granny, anything!! I'd kill for an Edition 1!!
-
Personally I'd keep the Rallye and sell the G60, both are special but where as the E1 is a 9.5/10, the Rallye is just a straight 10 ! And this is from someone who was actually tempted into buying your rallye.
If you're keeping the Rallye then you need to get the charger serviced asap even if it's just for piece of mind. I believe these guys are supposed to be good and down your side of the country --> http://www.g-werks.co.uk/index.php I think jv had his charger done there when he had his done last.
-
gibby with a Rallye!!!! Almost twice the horsepower of the Cab and about 3 times the Camper!
You wouldnt know yerself!
-
Can i buy the aubergine edition one?
-
Not low enough for you surely!
-
Ahh your right there!
save me changing the suspension on Mine though! good news on that front.im gonna order some coilovers
off tesh tommorow, so il have a power graph soon!
-
Now that is a tough decision G60 vs Rallye I mean on paper it seems obvious to keep the Rallye but an Ed1 G60! I would def keep them both, go on the game if you have to just dnt sell a rallye or a g60!
are they quick standard the G60 Rallye's?
-
Your using the Edtion 1 for an everday car
Keep them both if you can and make other sacrifices ie smoking/drinking/eating, sounds to me you've already grown attached to owning the pair of them
Do you get tempted to use one more than the other?? Mon The Rallye to work, Tues MMm the Ed1 and so on
-
are they quick standard the G60 Rallye's?
160 bhp 0-60 about 7.6 seconds :nerd:
-
G-Werks = good call, took my G60 down there when i first bought it. They overhauled it for me. Such nice chaps and the charger has been perfect since. Honestly the G has been the most reliable car, great fuel economy, i drive it all the time, been upto scotland twice, been to wales loads of times, the only time it ever let me down was when the cable snapped for the cable change box - new cables = £120 and fitting £100. Thats the only expense out of the run of the mill running costs i have had.
The G60 seems so much sharper and the turn in is so precise, suppose the Rallye will need bushes etc to get it up to the same handling as the G60.
-
...as for the TT lump, put it in a 5 door 8 valve! much more fun.
Stealth.
-
I think the G60 might have to go. Look at it this way i have had it for 2 years, absolutely loved it, will cry if i sell it, but i just cant justify keeping then both. The rallye is a 4wd so it will be different and new for me. Here is my G60

What do you think ?
-
I think you are selling yourself short and taking the easy route out.
-
I know and i know i will be bummed when its gone but.........
-
are they quick standard the G60 Rallye's?
160 bhp 0-60 about 7.6 seconds :nerd:
I know all the bhp stats etc but just thought that they might be a bit sluggish with that heavy 4wheel drive system. do htey weigh much more to an ordinary gti?
-
about same power to weight as a mk2 valver, but they get it down a lot better and quicker than a mk2.
-
ah right, not bad then!
-
Keep both if you can afford it. Garage the Rallye, use it at the weekends once you've got the charger overhauled. Keep the millage low and keep the body in mint condition.
The G60 engine is getting Rarer, so please keep it in the Rallye. Don't put a 1.8T lump in, you can put those in any car, why bother when you have a good engine already.
I'd love an Edition1 G60, but to have a Rallye too, it's just too much, that's greedy.
Do overtime, sell anything, organs, whatever, just to keep both cars.

Bollocks why doesnt someone just say sell one of them as its the sensible option !! I would have to sell one of them anyway when my van project is finished. Whats the deal with storage anyway, its so expensive. I rent a lockup and it cost me £16 per week !!!
-
get the van done, sell that.
-
