Title: Its not a golf and its not a gti but still
Post by: Golfgal on 28 November 2005, 19:37
1.8 driver engine

Shes juddering and cutting out over 3k revs. Just completely loosing power changed the carb and the alt could some sh!t fuel be the problem

Failing that could you all say a prayer and send out special "don't stop thoughts" to the rocco!

dont drive it over 3k then, try changing fuel filter about 70p,

then maybe check for any loose hoses etc? and if that fails flash yer knockers at a passing RAC van and ask him

Could be carbon deposits in the carb.  I had this happen to me before.  Got to the point where it would have no power at all in certain places.  The RAC man just redlined it a few times in neutral and that sorted it out.

Try taking the air filter off and pouring some reddex down the inlet.  You may get the odd plume of dark smoke from the exhaust, which for once is a good thing!

Another thing to check is the carb flange (a rubber thing that connects the carb to the inlet manifold).  It tends to split at the front and let air in, leaning your mixture out.

Replace the dizy cap, rotor arm & sparkies, and I'd be temped to do the leads too.  http://www.vwspares.co.uk do em all cheap and its all OEM quality Beru kit :)

Next step is to read through my Pierburg 2e2 carb guide:

Another thing it could be is carb icing, make sure the warm air feed pipe to the exhaust manifold shroud is present, and the warm air flap opens when the engine is running.
