Title: Newbie from the North
Post by: Grovit on 03 November 2003, 22:36
Hi folks

Just new to this site, so thought I'd say hello.

Currently drive an Accord Type R, however, new house and new baby on the way, means a change of "motoring budget" is called for.

Have limited myself around ?1,000 to buy a car , and the Golf Gti MkII came up trumps (Had a cracking example of one before and loved it :)).

So I'll be scouring the forum for info on buying tips for the Mark II and picking the brains of seasoned owners so be warned ;)

Will be looking to buy Jan / feb 2004, so plenty of time to aquaint myself with any buying pitfalls / tips / traps etc etc ..

As the car will need to be a 5 door version this limits the choice a little, however, I suspect for a grand, I'll get an 88 / 89 with around 100,000 on the clock.  Would like to get the bigger bumper model, however, I reakon the mileage will be signifacantly higher for this kind of budget.

Anyway - I'm off now to use the "Search" function to see what I can find... 8)

Cheers

Hi Chris,
Welcome back to the world of the Golf, almost.
Hope you find a good example, there are always some coming up in the forums for sale section.

You should be able to pick up a 5 door big bumper model for a grand, they are less sought after than the 3 doors so you onto a winner. Keep and eye on ebay, loads of Mk2's always for sale on there.
