im sure the answers are really simple and im gonna feel stooopid! but it is early and my brain is not in gear yet!!
1.On they way to work this morning my handbrake light kept flashing on and off even though the handbrake was completly off, any ideas??
2.I have just changed my wheels from 17" lenso RS5's with 205/40/17 tyres to 15" mim wheels (couldnt afford new tyres before xmas and someone made me an offer i couldnt refuse ) with 185/55/15 tyres and a offset of 15 (think thats right from memory ), a mate said i will need to get the tracking checked. anyone know if hes right??
cheers

the handbrake on my old golf used to do that, it stopped as quickly as it started tho???? not sure what it was, garrenteed someone will tho
-
yeh only started doing it this morning! hopefully on the way home it might have cleared up then cos its well annoying!
-
Could be either low brake fluid level or a faulty switch at the handbrake lever.
-
Hi,
dont go doing what i did the first week i had the golf, i thought it was just a dodgy switch but after my brakes went awol down the M4 i discovered it was a low fluid warning that id been ignoring! best to check really...
-
come to think of it, mine stopped doing it roughly after i put new brakes pads on and changed the break fluid..........
-
The most common cause of the handbrake light coming on is a faulty sensor on the brake fluid reservoir cap...
Unplug the sensor and the light will go out.
-
you just need a little guy under the car to plug and unplug it as nessasary, available at halford i think, you just need to feed them every so often and theyll be realiable as a dog and bone

Cheers for the advice guys will check my fluid levels() tonight!!

A simple check would be to remove the handbrake gaitor and check and clean the contact.
-
topped up the fluid and hey presto the light has gone out  , now the only problem is why am i losing fluid cos i only had it changed a couple of months ago? any common places to check?
Also i have changed my wheels again (15"bbs ra's now ith 195/50/15) so after 3 sets of wheels in a month should i get tracking checked or would this be uneffected?
cheers!!

You may find that the camber will need adjusting as well. Worth doing if you are keeping the 15s on for any length of time.
-
yeah keeping the 15"s now, think they look a lot better and more subtle than the 17"s(and my girlfriend will kill me if i change wheels again  ), car handles better too. Think i will get it checked to be in the safe side!!
cheers
