HI,
I just came back from my local stealer,I purchased a set of MK5 mud flaps,I've just come back from picking the car up and I was told that the mudflaps I purchased won't fit and that VW have no mud flaps for the MK 5 GTI.
If anyone has and/or gets some fitted would like to know the part number, please

Has anyone actually got mudflaps on their Mk V GTI?
I got my car on Friday and was meant to have flaps fitted but they seemed to forget that. Now they are looking into whether there are flaps for the GTI and I would just like to know the correct position so that they do not lie to me and say there are none made.
-
The problem with flaps for the GTI is the side sill trim. The rear flaps are fine but the front ones won't fit due to the extra bit of black plastic from the front wheel arch along the sill. There will be some soon but this was a problem that VW hadn't thought about. I've got about half a dozen customers waiting for flaps to be fitted.
Just a thought but as the back ones are the same as all MK5 Golfs, you could just have the rears which would help stop all the muck spraying up the back. :undecided: That might look crap though, not sure.

My dealer seemed to think that the back was ok but the front was a problem which agrees with the posting above. Any idea when the fronts will become available?? Just decided whether to wait or whether to try to make something work with a universal mudflap. I had to do this with both my last cars as mudflaps were not available for them, takes ages to get it right but worth the effort.
-
According to my Parts Manager, there are no GTI front flaps yet available. That is not to say that there won't be tho.
The front ones should be butcherable though. It should just be a case of gently cutting away the flap bit by bit. The fitting is exactly the same as a normal Golf apart from the black trim. It shouldn't be more than a few mm of trimming required. Your dealer won't want to get involved but will happily sell you a set of front flaps for about £30. They are quite straight forward to fit and come with instructions but it's easiest if you can get the car of the ground and take the wheels off (essential for the rears).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help VWmd. Do you have part numbers available for the front and rears. Just if I I have all the info I can point my dealer in the right direction should they struggle to find the right ones. I will probably get them just to give me a set of front ones which I can butcher myself.

Hi
Mudflaps Mk5 Golf:
1K0 075 111 Front
1K0 075101 Rear
These are not unique parts to GTI, these are general Mark 5 Golf parts so your dealer should really not struggle to find these. They'll probably go on about them not fitting GTI but the rears will fit fine and the fronts will need fettling as mentioned above.
Cheers

Thanks for that mate.
I got part numbers from another source who had been given the following numbers from his dealer.
Front 5M0075112 Rear 1KM075102
Does your guy know anything about these part numbers and what they relate to?
-
5M0075112 Should be 101 at the end is Golf Plus rear flaps (101 for rear 111 for front)
The other part no. should also be 101 at the end but is Jetta rear flaps.
I'd change parts supplier mate.....

It was someone in another forum who listed those part numbers and thus may be talking rubbish! I am going tomorrow for them to fit rear flaps and they will give me a set of front ones for me to butcher. Will see how things go, hope they fit ok, I am assuming they are ordering the ones for the standard Mk V Golf.
-
if and when someone gets a set, can they post a pic
cheers

Cool. Yeah, post a picture once you've butchered them. Shouldn't really need too much work if you're fairly proficient with a blade/hacksaw.

OK, update on the mudflaps time.
Went on Friday afternoon to get them fitted and also listed a few other things like dash rattle, wind noise around door and rattle in rear seat. They came back to me 90 mins later, mudflaps no chance of fitting and have not had time to look at the other issues. VERY ignorant service lady who I quickly told to go away and get me the salesman who promised to world to me. On the rattle issues and door seal problem I could not believe they would not at least investigate to see if it needed any parts, she was happy for me to go home (25 miles) bring it back another day for investigation (50 mile round trip) then order parts if required and return another day for fixing (another 50 miles). Madness and rubbish customer service. Eventually someone agreed to test the car and diagnosed a faulty door seal within less than 1 mile which only took minutes. Very poor experience of a dealer who I have just started out in business with and my car is only 1 week old. Anyway, they are to come back to me on those issues.
I got them to give me a full set of flaps for me to try to fit but on a quick investigation it is not going to be easy. Even the backs do not fit well due to the different bumper shape and would need considerable trimming. Main dealer you said that rears should go on ok, has your dealership actually fitted them to a GTI yet and how did it go?
Also Main Dealer there is some suggestion that VW may bring out flaps designed for the GTI? Is your parts man able to get any info on whether this is true from VW and when is it likely. I would hate to spend hours modifying flaps to then find that proper ones are available very soon from VW.

Two of my GTI customers have rear flaps fitted. I haven't had a close look at them but I've heard nothing negative about fitting or appearance???? :undecided: The computer will tell your dealers parts dept that they are not for GTI but i've seen two cars with them fitted.! The first was when we first found out that the fronts don't work but had already fitted the rears and gave the customer the option of keeping them for free or having them removed, the second, I sold them as rears only. - The customer wanted to prevent spray up the back of the car. Very strange and dissapointed  to hear about your dealers inability to fit them. I'll speak to our service dept tomorrow and ask the question.
My parts man has no knowledge of any offical GTI front flaps fitted. That's not to say there won't be though. :undecided:
Don't give up on the flaps yet. Unless the car or flaps have changed, they will fit. Bear with me......

Thanks for all your advice VWmd, its good to get the point of view from a dealer who cares enough to find out and tell the truth. My dealer gave me a set of flaps to try and the front certainly need modified and may be ok. I only tried the backs briefly against the car and they did not seem to follow the bumper line too well therefore it would be good to hear from your service department. They may need modofied and again it would be good to hear from someone who has done it.
I will def not give up on the mudflaps as I am determined to keep my car as clean as possible and therefore protect the paintwork too. At the moment it is covered with a salty spray from the roads up the side and rear of the car which I am sure mudflaps would cut down considerably.

Update on the mudflaps.
I now have rear flaps fitted to my car after a few hours work over the weekend. They are the flaps for the stock Mk V Golf but do not just fit straight on. The bumper shape is slightly different therefore the fixing at the bottom of the flap has nowhere to fix to so i had to be inventive. The left one sits perfect imho and the right currently has a little gap between the flap and the side of the bumper but I can maybe still adjust it a bit - already fitted it 3 times but will get there. I'm happy enough so far and there is no reason my dealer could not have done this job but because its not a simple place srew in already provided hole they could not be bothered. For anyone else wanting mudflaps and has been told they fit the GTI that is not exactly the case but they can fit with some effort.
Now my attention needs to be drawn to the fronts, may be easier although I'm not sure. Need to work out how to fit around the sill extension.
-
VWmd maybe you can help here. I have been told by an independent parts supplier that he can now order GTI direct from factory in Germany and I assume he means they are genuine parts. DOes your parts guy have any futher info on these, would save me a lot of hassle cutting and shaping standard Mk V flaps.

I'm sorry to have apparently mislead you. I've spoken to my technician here who does PDIs and he's still adamant that he has fitted rear flaps on GTIs. In his words, they were no more difficult to fit than on any other Golf. Sorry if they have proved more problematic than that. :embarassed:
My parts manager still has no idea about genuine GTi flap though....... :undecided:
Sorry

Anybody got any (new) news on proper Gti mudflaps?ÂÂÂ
I will be putting them on as soon as become available. My dealer mentioned that rear ones were available, but not front (which is where most of the mess is generated). I said I would wait until a full set became available.
-
I got a front set from an independent parts supplier which are genine VW parts. They were sold as being for the GTI but do not really fit. They seem to be for the Golf Plus as that is on the label on the pack although from memory it says Golf / Golf Plus so they must be designed for some Golf. They are just the same as the standard Golf part with a bit cut out to accomodate the sill. In a few investigations they will not really suit but maybe with some work and modification they will be ok. Rears already fitted, just use the standard Golf parts, little bit of work needed as mentioned earlier in the post but are fine really. Help a little with keeping the back cleaner but not the complete answer.
