Title: PC in your car
Post by: Steve-d on 24 November 2005, 17:05
I am planning to put a PC in my car.  After looking around I have decided to build one myself but I cant find a case
for it which is small, durable etc.  Has anybody got an idea of a site where I can pick or create something like this?

Have you checked www.Dabs.com - they've got a pretty big selection and normally do next day delivery, nice and cheap too

Check out http://www.Ebuyer.com/ or http://Overclockers.co.uk/ - they're both better than Dabs IMHO - spesh for this kinda thing...

What are you planning to do with the pc in your car?

Your best bet is to customise  a case you buy to fit your car. A shuttle type pc case might be a good idea as the case is a good small size. Bazzers right though. Ebuyer and Overclockers have the most selections and are both very well priced.

Check out the following link...it has peoples project cars. (including a Vespa with a pc!?!)

Get a mac mini, they are really small, a little bit bigger than a headunit...

maybe a laptop mounted on the dash on the passender sideso that it sat flush with the dash when closed. Might look smart? could have things like the usb connectors into the blanking pannels etc. would be a lot of work but sooooo worth it!

I want the PC for Sat nav, DVD, CD, Internet (mobile), games.

I thought if i have it in the car say under the seat it will look tydy.
My realy goal will be to put it in the boot with an amp and sub in some sort of mounting unit.

Any ideas i am new to the customising game.

im also in middle of this mod/planning stages Ive got the motherboard from when i upgraded my pc same with psu and processor. Im getting ram and hard drive and hopefully dvd drive for free. Ive just ordered a micro atx case from ebuyer which is a great shop and also check out  www.LinITX.com for loads of car pc stuff. I plan on installing the case somewhere prob amongst my other boot candy running the wires through and then getting one of those vortex style centre consoles and fabricating a touch screen monitor into it. I defo recommend checking out mp3car.com if you've not already as there forum is full of very knowledgable follks. Use the search function before asking a question on there tho as they seem to get a little peed off with silly questions

If you've got a Mk3 on you can use the VAG-COM software and create your own dash, did this for a mates Audi. Was very cool, but not ideal to replace the original dash!
