I am thinking of fitting the ASA Indy JS6 alloy wheels on my MK1 convertible.
I wanted the 15" version but they are no longer available.
Is 16" too big? I have not got power steering, so will 16" make my steering too heavy.
I always thought 15" is the ideal size - not too big or small - just right. Plus I want to lower the car.
I used to own a MK2. I fitted 15" alloys and lowered it by 40mm. The ride was perfect. Not too harsh.ÂÂÂ

That link does not work mate. I would of thought 16's will cause you some issues especially if you want to go lower. If i were you id stick with 15's.

Dinx has got 17's on her cab if im not mistaken...why not ask how comfortable that is?
-
your right there, dinx's cab is dropped on 17s. Think she gets some rubbings here and there but it looks lush so who cares!?!
-
well done boys..gud memories.. lol
i have 17s on a 40mm drop,no arch work..only rubs if i take a corner/roundabout too quickly/tightly...and obv,no passengers in the back
as for power steerin..if a girl can handle it without..surely anyone can..
Dinx

cheers for the advice - Fair enough I can fit 17's but I dont want my arches rubbing and stuff. I will be taking it out socially, hence passengers and one of mate is quite big so more arch rubbing. I might settle for 15's, dunno yet.
Going on holiday today - somewhere nice & warm, India. So chat to u guys after 2 weeks.
-
id stick with the 15s if your carrying passengers tbh

Mines on 15s and lowered with coilovers and I still get rubbing on the rear when loaded.
16/17s are more delicate to lower with. espeically if you are not upgrading the shocks. Firstly they would have to be a MAX of 7" wide, pref 6.5"

Not recommended, I've got 16" TSW stealths on my mk1 campaign and even with the arch lips rolled and spax rsx's fitted and wound to the top it still rubs like a bastad when cornering.
-
I got 15's on mine and lowered 30mm,4 people in and two suitcases and it still drove perfect.does depend on how you use the car, dinx's does look good on 17's though

arh thanx hunny  not even the dog gets in my back seat..

i think wheel choice is a very personal thing, there is one thing i dont like about the v dub scene (please dont all lay in to me!) its the fact that if you dont have bbs, ronal, ats, borbet etc! then your car can not be cool! rubbish, and its the same in all the vw mags! now dont get me wrong i love bbs and all the other wheels that most vw's have but as long as the rim suits the car then there cool anyway! and why not be different? so if you want 16's go for it, i have seen some nice one's on that size rim, just speak to a wheel and tyre place and see what they say, if you get 195/45/16 they should be ok! sorry for the rant! lol
oh i have been thinking of changing mine to ats cups! lol
