Title: golf gt tdi 130 is this normal???
Post by: arnoldlog1 on 21 November 2005, 09:37
hi ppl,
i just bought a gt tdi 130(2002), it drives really well it pulls a lot better than my old pug 306 d turbo(which i loved), but if i drive it hard i only get about 30 mpg, and if i drive like a nun i get about 40 mpg. i was expecting more mpg than this. to be fair this is driving in towns tho and on way to work i've not taken it on a proper run yet.
How ever i did notice this morning that one of the rear brakes is sticking on some times (not that u get any diagnostic up on the mfd!(thought that was what it was 4!!!)) i assume this will make a difference to mpg. its going to the garage on friday anyway 4 its 70k service and to check the brakes, so i hope to see some mpg improvements!!!!!
can any one tell me what sort of mpg to expect???

i also have a problem with the radio but i will save that 4 another day   lol

MY PD150 was always much more thirsty than expected.
The books quote figures of 50+, which I never, ever saw.
I stuggled to best 40 at the best of times, and when I caned it (most of the time) it was low to mid 30's
However, that did cover a lot of central London driving, and these cars are awful when doing town driving.
Mention it at service time and they can investigate.

^ as above, if its mostly city centre driving with a lot of stop/go then your mpg isnt too far off the mark, but could be better...

wouldn't imagine it was the brakes if it's just one of them sticking, if it was that bad you'd probably be driving round in circles.

a general service may sort the problem, especially if its been a while since the air filter was changed. assuming you have no other symptoms (such as poor idle, misfiring, fluctuating temp. readings etc..) i'd sit with fingers crossed until friday and see how it goes.

are you also a member of the "my fecking volume knob does what it wants to and not what i tell it!" club ?

thanks for the quick response!!

I'll see what its like when it comes back from service on Friday, I'm taking it to chester on Thursday so I'll see what its like on a run(i live near nottingham/derby).

no someones removed the original stereo and fitted a jvc CD player, which A isn't very good, and B it looks like its been fitted by a blind man. so i thought I'll take it out and fit my old alpine head unit that was in my pug 306. it fits great but 4 sum reason when i remove the jvc and fit the alpine i get an immobilizer fault on the mfd. Also when the alpine is fitted the remote central locking doesn't work either!!! but the alpine works just i can't live without remote central locking!!

i want i new head unit anyway when i can afford but i just shelled £8k on the car plus i got to get it serviced, so i was just trying to make do with my old head unit 4 a bit.  :embarassed:

our old Audi 110bhp diesel (1999my) was impossible to get below 50mpg on the average. Are the 130 and 150 that much thirstier?

i took it in for service 2day, but its bad news it's got a diesel leak on the cooler, maybe thats y it drinks diesel like a fish!!! and it needs new discs and pads on the back!

oh well

its gonna cost £385 for a new cooler, service and discs and pads on the back, not to bad i thought, from my local vw specialist. i wonder how much that would be at the stealership???? (and he's leant me a polo till monday on a k plate no power steering AARRGGGHHH!!)

oh also on the run to chester it averaged 55mpg there and back (206 miles) even with leak.

I know this is going to sound like a real spotter question but is it a diesel cooler or is it using the diesel to cool something else, there by warming the diesel and resisting waxing?  just pondering ta shagmeister
