im thinking of possibly doing something themed with me caddy,
what does everyone think of the "themed" cars (like taxis, surf rides, combat ,rats, etc),
I always like to see them and they prob get noticed more than a 20k show ride ,but im not convinced what they would be like to run day in day out :undecided:
anyone got any experience of them or just your opinions,

what kinda theme u thinking about? i personally like em and when executed properly they look cool
-
not a fan of rat look, think it should be renamed shat look tbh but that just me. I think the caddy youv got there would look best if its just done nicely. A lot of caddy's iv seen at shows etc are not done very well so a really smart one would stand out a mile! drop it, re-trim it, give it some new shoes and send it on its way!S

In the end you are going to be the one that is going to be seen driving around in it, so its really up to you how much you want the attention or not. Personally i think that a surf-esq look would suit that better, and not require much modification bodywork wise. Possibly go two tone on it?? Nose down stance, and some nice bit of bling trim round the edges, on something like a set of 13s.

not a bad shout that slick! nice surf board rack in the back etc. could see that workin well!
-
i think themed cars are a bit gash to be honest. not so bad if they are done in keeping with the age/style of the car but there's no point trying to make a mk5 "retro" for example.
what ideas did you have? that might help make a decision?
also themned cars tend to have a limited lifespan and if you go too far its hard to reverse when you want to change the design

I was thinking along the lines of doing it in the porsche gulf racing colours of the 70s/80s it would be a pretty easy transformation and when slammed and detailed could be a real looker ?,
but im not totally sold on the idea so i have got me thinking head on at the moment ,but its gonna be me work runaround so no big money projects (ie the seats wont be getting retrimmed but i might stick the gti seats in and it aint getting repainted ,+ the wheels may get sold on but there replacements will prob cost the same)
ps i cant surf !!,

i can feel a voting pole round the corner...should it be..Surfer dude or Gulf racing?? :undecided:

i was thinkin surfer, but i think that was purely based on the colour it is..

But didn't it have a home made, lop-sided wonky wing vent !
wag, I think subtle is the key to a nice caddy, I think the paint job in your pic would work if done right, some nice rims and take it lower. Less is more in my opinion.

did it really?! you sure were talkin about the same one?! althou...didn have glasses on in day time and startin drinkin in the afternoon so would have looked straight to me all the time..

I think, either surfer theme with a surf board rack in the back or, clean up the current paint job, drop it, small retro wheels, small chrome bumpers (don't like the no-bumper thing).
Keep it simple and clean.
-
surf for sure, couple of boards in the back would look swet, there was a mk2 golf in a similar coloure to yours done in a surf theam, look emense. gulf racing could also work though. just go for what you think is right and what you prefer thuogh.

I like the military/combat look cars that have been cropping up lately - matt grey/olive green paint, iron crosses, etc. I don't "get" rat look at all - most of them I have seen just look sh*t imho. Surf look - beetles and campers tbh.
-
I went in whsmiths the other day and was checking out the mags (not those ones!) and there was a mk1 escort done in the gulf scheme! thought it looked quite swish and then on the cover of a mini mag there was a mini in the same scheme!!, think i might give it a miss (though they both looked cool :undecided:)

Personally i'd say dont theme it, Caddys dont really suit 'themes' so to speak. IMO you have a nice looking caddy already, Slam it nice 'n' low (Hell, make it so that you could bumper-bang a snail.) but have the front a wee bit lower than the back (10-15mm more). Stick some nice small wheels on it, some nice rims - Possibly 9" but i dont know if that'd mean modifying the arches?. De-badge the grill, and get one of those covers for the back (I dont know the name of them, but they're fibreglass and come either hinged or on lifters?). That'd look pretty good imo. I love the colour - defenitly keep the colour.
