i'm after a conversion for my 8 valve as it's a tidy car and i can't afford to insure anything bigger(what the insurance man don't know won't hurt him). I was thinking of doing an engine upgrade and i know there is lots to choose from but i would like to do one that gives me around 150 bhp. i would be grateful if any1 could let me know which engine to go for and what work/parts are needed for the job, cheers in advance a gti newbie

I believe sourcing a 2.0 16v (150bhp) ABF engine would suffice and use the K Jet fuelling to get things going ... you are supposedly good for 170 bhp or so in a mk2 ... would be quite nippy... i believe you can pick up an ABF engine for about £400 or so from various places.. from vehicle such as Ibiza Gti 96>

If your wanting to stick with the 8v motor then your best gains will be from a 2.0 bottom end conversion and a faster cam. Both un noticable to the un trained insurance mans eye.
