Title: 16 valver oil leak...
Post by: dan7 on 15 November 2005, 20:38
my mate isn't online. he asked me to get some opinions about his engine. he has an oil leak but two garages he has taken it to say they can't exactly locate it!!! it is a 1990 16 valver. is there a prone spot to look at first to give him/me half a chance of finding it?!

i know i always say this but look at the oil pressure switch its on top of the oil cooler (above the filter), the main part of it is white. It's a simple screw but if that goes then it can be abugger to trace as it drips oil down over the sump and makes it a mare to diagnose.

get the whole engine bay steam washed, then look for leaks

oil cap seals are another suspect place

I cleaned my engine bay as reccomended by these guys and the leak quickly showed itself. Maybe use an engine degreaser like gunk too... Worked a treat on mine.

Oh and it was the rocker cover
