Title: Camshaft change

im going to tackle putting my gti camshaft in my 1600 on wednesday, not 100% sure what to do, im assuming its self explanatry once im in there but i could be wrong, a breif description of what to do would be greatly appreicated  :smiley:

You need a haynes really, let me know your email addy & I'll send a PDF copy to you if you like.

Main thing to remember is number the camshaft upper bearing caps and put them on exactly the same way you take em off!  Oh and you'll need a torque wrench too :)

do do the camshaft clamp bolts to the right torque please don't try it without one unless you feel like buying a new head & cam :)

ok, how much does a torque rench cost and what torque do they need to be tightened to?

depends where you go, http://www.screwfix.com have good prices.  Buy a haynes manual :)  Only a couple of quid off ebay, buy the green on if you can, millions on there last time i checked.

ive allready got a red haynes manuel and a green one, im gonna leave it alone tho i think, i just changed my rocker cover gasket and i dont think the cams much different really, some tell me itll make a difeence where as others say it wont so im gonna leave it as my engines pretty good so i dont wanna mess it about, plus i cant be arsed to take it all apart again  :grin:

you think the camshaft is almost the same as a rocker cover gasket? :huh:

obviously if i changed the gasket i could see the camshaft to compare it........  :laugh:
