Post by: RYoungMK1GTI on 14 November 2005, 23:48
Since i was about 14 i have always wanted a four wheel drive MK1 with the power that coud eat anything on the road.    err and track. So i wanna know if for my next VW project shall i give it ago, a 4x4 MK1, cause whatever i build it has to really special.

of course it is. if that's what you want to do go for it.
I get loads of satisfaction wiping the smiles off the civic typer owner's faces when a 19 year old mk2 golf leaves them for dead :D

it's been done before so there's no reason why it can't be done again
would make an awesome motor if done right

just don't tell anyone your gonna have to strip a rallye of it's drivetrain to make it  :lipsrsealed:

he will be able to use the 4wd train off the running gear of pretty much any vag motor if he has enough know how and the place to do it. I.E> could hunt down a R32 rip that apart and use that, or a 4 motion, anything like that. I would go for it, but don't set a deadline that way you cannot get so easily stressed and/or bored.

That would be a golf country love, like toph said. That is a full 4x4 system including suspension, i believe he is thinking getting it running 4wd like a quattro.

That is Dubweisers twin engined mk1. Two 20v audi lumps in there, 4wd, and sub 9second qtrs.

Go for it, I'd love to do that sort of project if I had the money and skills.

The red mk1 Golf N featured in VW Motoring Magazine had the 4wd system from a Mk2 Syncro and had to chop the floor pan of the Mk1 to get the prop-shaft to the rear.
I think it was running 300bhp or something, and looked just superb, completely stock, not even bling alloys.

yeah i think i will go for it and i definately agree with slick, and not go for a deadline,  i wonder what engine i should go for i dont wanna do a 20VT and i cant afford to do any modern engines, i was thinkin a mk3,2.0l 16v turbo with all the tricks, should be able to push 400bhp outta one of them.
