is ther a way of making them quite as it is sounding like a sawing manchine and i dont have the money to replace them yet and the noise doing my head in
Pete
-
change the oil...
if that dont make em noticably quieter then they are fooked
-
The only cheap way of improving them is to flush your oil and put new in with a propper vw filter as they have a non return valve in to help keep the oil at the top end.
-
Wynns hydraulic tappet cleaner usually does a good job at shutting them up.
Needs to be followed by an oil change a couple of hundred miles later though.
-
What they all said...
-
And if you change them do a write up with lots of pics so that i can copy.
-
get a treatment called wynns hydralic valve lifter. Tends to do the trick worked in my old valver anyhow.

Wynns hydraulic tappet cleaner
Wynns hydraulic valve lifter
^^^ is there a difference between these? or is it just a different name for the same thing??
-
I used lifter in mine, but i would imagine they are pretty similar, as the lifter cleans and stops them sticking, and also lubes them so they do not rattle. Can't say i have ever seen a tin of cleaner.

hmm..think ill go find myself some of that lifter stuff then, might quieten the old girl down a bit
