As the subject above really people - thinking of mating a 1.8 20VT with a Mk2 16v rod-change cable clutch 'box, then with the biggest shoehorn in the world putting it in my Mk1.
Just making sure the box will go in and the driveshaft lengths will be the same - or am I waaaaaaaay off the mark?
Thanks in advance,
Rosco.

 i thought this was going to be a simple yes but i dunno about 20v's, you might be better asking in the mk4 bit as somone must have tried it
To fit the mk2 box in a mk1 with an 8v or 16v you just have to swap the driveshaft flanges about so maybe you'll need to do something similar :nerd: would be good if you can as this will make the swap much easier
 Do you have the engine fitted yet? i considered the conversion myself but got scared off by talk of engine management/cable change boxes and custom engine mounts etc...

Thanks for the advice - still trying to figure out if its feasible really. Mounts and stuff dont really worry me and if your willing to spend the cash the Emerald ECU cuts the crap and uses the front wiring loom the car the engine was from and wires to the Mk1 binical....from what i've heard.
I hear its best to use the Mk3 16v cable change box but that has a hydraulic clutch so to be fair i'd rather use a re-built rod change Mk2 version with an LSD, as by all accounts they have an appetite for mashing diff pins if left standard. When you say change drive flanges - are they the flanges off the diff and you change them to take Mk1 driveshafts?

Best to fit 100mm inner cv joints to your shafts or use a couple of late scirocco shafts, box will fit no problem. The standard 16v clutch wont last long (mine used to last about 3 drag meets and then start to slip, 207hp). Save yourself a load of grief and go for the o2a box with a vr6 clutch and a cable actuator. Mounting kits are on egay sometimes or fab up your own.
