:( This light started to flash after i got a leaky hose , i have replaced the hose and re filled the cooling system , the engine is not overheating but the light keeps flashing and i dont know how to reset it - any ideas??

mine does the same. I changed the header tank and it stopped for a while, but came on again last night. Dunno what's wrong cos there's plenty of water in there. >:(

You may want to check the water pump. Not sure how, but try and find out how many splines it has left on it.
My 16v had an over heating problem many years ago, and it was discovered the water pump only had one spline left on it, so water wasn't being pushed through the engine very well.

i had the same problem...
thought i'd followsome of the advice on the forum, and ignored it...
then the light would come on from cold...
thought if i'd fill up the water tank (which i was told by my local vw garage is a small round ball type with a back cap)
filled it up, problem went away, and thought to myself that was easy....
but i was wrong, car started over heating wildly, so i kept filling up...
the fan never came on, and today the car steamed up on the A406...
ive put about 20L of Evian water in the car in the last 2 days...
im now geting desparate as the car wont go anywhere without it over heating...
is there anyway to test the fan??
or is there any reason why this is happening??
thanx guys

The fan shouldn't need to come on in normal driving, leave the car running, the fan should come on when the temp hits 3/4 on the dial. Is the water leaking out? with that amount of water i think you would notice, could be a leaking head gasket. Worth checking the water pump too.

Have you tried changing your thermostat and expansion tank cap? first things to do when car overheats.

maybe it doesnt like french water.....
-
rofl @tinman!! if it was a french car overheating, i guess i would pee in the water tank lol!!!

:o :D ;D

I agree about that but would only suggest peeing in it when it has cooled down.
Some guy got third degree burns to his manhood doing just this when he ran out of water. :'(
